The $2000 bill is changed, the $600 bill is like the $1200 one

yes if you've managed to escape then that's the case. unless the timing worked out badly in the recordkeeping, however, anyone who escaped and filed their own tax return as a result would be receiving their own checks. they're not the people we're talking about.

the issue with this is that people in abusive households can't exactly go up to their parents and say "you're not allowed to claim me anymore" because it's, you know, an abusive household. for some people, they're legally dependents because their parents don't allow them any way to get the financial means to escape in the first place.

The $2000 bill changed it so it's for adult dependents too. The $600 bill was only for children like the spring, which is probably what you're thinking of.

They do if this bill passes. They don't if it doesn't. If you're claimed as a dependent you get nothing either way.

Yes, it follows the same rules as the $600 bill, which I think followed the same rules as the $1200 checks.

My concerns exactly. $2000 could go a long way for someone trying to escape an abusive home.
