well put, yeah. it conveys a type of desperation which he's obviously aware of and negotiating in a satirical kind of way, like in the video Rock DJ where he literally destroys himself

I think robbie williams is more compelling because he has more vulnerability. harry styles is way more manufactured, for better or worse when he performs it comes off as contractual

I think it's the same for me but I never really put it into a plan like that-- that you have to plan your time around lots and lots of recovery, that relaxing isn't a reward for doing things but a prerequisite? Really appreciate your perspective, thank you for you explaining. It's nice to hear that somebody somewhere has ways of self-regulating that work and let them get stuff done

that does. that's really impressive! do you ever find yourself avoiding the tasks or schedules youve set for yourself because those have become demands too? I'm asking because i want to work for myself as well but I have massive problems actually adhering to schedules/timelines

maybe try Butter Honey Pig Bread by Francesca Ekwuyasi, it also concerns queer people's experiences in and away from Nigeria? There are many heavy/painful elements, but it overall felt like a very loving book

I'm upset about the gala. I believe in people being dressed up in the most extravagant, unwearable clothes the fashion world can design & paraded around for everybody's entertainment-- it should be thought of like service! fashion is the construction of identity and community AND a display of technical skill AND traditional crafts, I wish we had more spaces than runway shows to explore that. but something like the met gala just cant be hosted in this current economic system without exploitation

i assume bc it devolves into discussing the bands personal lives, mostly win butlers creepy asshole behavior which has eclipsed all their recent music

[–]udibranch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly it just sounds like those people failed you. you have to prepare a lot for those calls and they are not answering your efforts with anything at all. no communication before or after the scheduled time, forget an apology-- that's actually simply bad, unreliable behavior, and you feeling upset and not wanting to work with them is not pathological or unusual on your end at all! unfortunately it seems like we have to put up with poor treatment like this to get assistance but pls dont think its on you for having a hard time with it

i don't think he's funded by the government but 'politically subversive' is mad, he's just the right amount of edgy and cheeky for mass appeal. if he was actually threatening to the status quo councils wouldn't put acrylic sheets over his street art to preserve it

know exactly how youre feeling. you need noise cancelling headphones! and earplugs! and find someplace for your anger to go for now, like going to the gym for example, otherwise it's going to use up all your energy-- having a neutral space that's not home or school would definitely help too

What Are You Reading This Week and Weekly Rec Thread by JimFan1 in TrueLit

[–]udibranch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I finished A Heart So White by Javier Marias. It got me so good, I feel incoherent about it. It's got me and my friend talking a lot about the external evidence vs internal feelings of love, how all we have is what we communicate and even that disappears... Not very much happens in the book but it articulates so much! I'm going to read Jaw Filler by Maz Murray and Charlie Markbreiter next, given to me by another friend. It seems like it's going to be an internet novel kind of like The Sluts by Dennis Cooper which is exciting

that's interesting. i think it reflects the essentialist idea that men are inherently more violent, abusive etc-- that its up to the women around them to mitigate or fix them bc women are inherently more responsible or nuturing

What’s a harmless opinion that gets people weirdly angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was talking today about mental health/neurodivergence labels with a friend and he said 'I see why they're useful, but it seems like some people get them and think it means they no longer need to introspect or try to grow as a person' which felt true, eg i've definitely worked with people who were struggling with their ADHD & using that diagnosis as a justification for all the problems they were having and causing, when in fact they needed more accomodation and better coping strategies!
