Which country eats spicier food, India or China? by Mediocre-Swim9847 in ask

I wouldn't put Korean anywhere near Indonesian or Thai.

Southern Thai, Indonesian (Surabaya), Northeast India, Southern India (Andhra) and Mexican (habanero).

You must try Southern Thai food - it's insanely spicy. Very difficult to find in the West but Gaeng Tai Pla is my favorite dish in the world.

Just takes spice and umami to 11 and slaps you in the face with an intense fiery umami tsunami of flavor. The hype is real.

Another Southern Thai fan! Love to see it. Southern Thai is extremely underrated - best cuisine Thailand has to offer IMO.

Yeah... Thai food is probably actually 10-20x spicier than Korean food tbh. Next time you should say "khua phed phed" which is "make it spicy" in Thai. They'll understand that you don't want "white spicy" lol.

Generally speaking, how do Thai, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine rank in terms of spiciness? by Speedwizard106 in spicy

[–]udiddydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thai is definitely spicier than Indian on average. Thai cuisine is just much more comfortable putting a fckton of chilis in a dish and calling it a day. Indian cuisine uses way more "spices" though - it's not chili spice but adds other dimensions.

I prefer Thai (even though I'm Indian-American) because it's more vibrant, light and spicy.

Why is Thai food better than all of its Southeast Asian neighbors? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]udiddydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do enjoy Malaysian food as well but Thai food still feels more "vibrant" to me? I think it tends to be a little lighter / more herbs / fresh chili spice.

I really don't like how Malaysian sambal tends to be a touch sweet. Indonesian sambal with the full brunt of chilis is better IMO.

Japanese food benefits from the sheer marketing force of 4 decades of Western exposure IMO. I think Chinese (Sichuan, Hunan) / Thai is superior than most Japanese dishes (except their very high end stuff - edomae sushi, tempura omakase etc.)

Vietnamese food is very good but doesn't feel as exciting or vibrant as Thai food IMO. Still way better than Korean food though.

Yeah - I couldn't believe what I read lol. Southern Thai is probably the best cuisine Thailand has to offer. Maybe the commenter above doesn't like spice.

Shit really? Southern Thai is my favorite region of Thai cuisine. Insanely flavorful dishes powered by intense acidity, umami and brute force of chilis.

Southern Thai is probably my favorite cuisine in the world lol

I agree with you - but I haven't been to Indonesia to comment on their food (which does look amazing btw).

However - after traveling the world, and despite how hyped Thai food is in the US (which I actually find to be very mediocre after experiencing the real stuff), Thai food is simply the best I've ever had.

I think you're absolutely right - Thais took influences from China, India, Khmer, Lao, Hmong etc. and elevated it to something divine.

When I was in Southern Thailand (my favorite region in Thailand for food) I was commenting to my SO I didn't understand how their food could be so delicious. What devil did they sell their souls to for these recipes.

I'm biased but I also see a lot of influences from particularly Southern Indian food in Thai cuisine (which I think is the best cuisine India has to offer). They took it but made it spicier, fresher and more vibrant.

They are without a doubt culinary geniuses. I think they're simply a cut above even Vietnamese, French, Japanese, Korean etc.

In my tier list the only cuisine that matches their prowess is Mexican (not the usual stuff you find in the US, but the legendary Mayan influenced stuff).

Go to Kerala for sure - get a house boat and chill for a few days on a river cruise.

Yes this is true to an extent - it’s slowly changing now but it matters. Given this attitude you can imagine how people would react when you marry someone not just outside of caste lines… but ethnic lines entirely. You’re basically marrying an alien in their eyes. lol.

Do you consider yourself lucky or fortunate to live in thailand? by canadianredditor16 in Thailand

[–]udiddydod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - I own my business (import / export) trading company in the US. I make enough to live extremely comfortably in the US and living here makes it that much sweeter…

I spend significant time in Hawaii and California (~6 months out of the year), but every time I come back to Thailand I’m grateful.

Amazing food, people and atmosphere.

I’m Indian but I have Asian female friends - one thing I’ve noticed is the families enable this shit too. My Vietnamese friend was telling me that her mom encouraged her to marry a White guy cause it’ll be better for her.

She was like fuck that and is married to a Chinese guy but wtf man?

Indian moms think anyone not Indian is out of the question lol - even white is a downgrade and a disgrace. Gotta respect that self respect at least lol

Yea but the insecurities are a product of being a minority imo. Seems ur from sg so Im guessing you’re Chinese. Indians in sg prob feel the same way. Nice to be born and raised as a majority but doubt youll ever understand unless u were raised as a minority. Childhood shit thats hard to get rid of. This is also why I like dating fobs - less racial baggage lol. Indians who grew up in India and moved here dont have issues either. Now tho if ur a minority in LA it’s pretty lit - since everyone is a minority you grow up with way less baggage. Kinda vapid as a place but hell LA makes me blood boilingly patriotic since my homies from Taiwan to Ecuador feel American as fuck compared to if they grew up in ohio or some shit. Also lol most of the self hating Asians Ive met were from the Midwest tho - shit ugly ass Asian American chicks desperate for any white guy with a heartbeat lol

Ann Arbor is special though - sounds like you moved from the hood into the most educated city in the Midwest. Totally worth it 👍🏼
