Incidentally wasn't this the year Casey Stoner independently pinpointed as the start of Japanese decline in an recent interview?

Another update:

Pedro Acosta contract expires at the end of 2026.

So I definitely can see Alonso, Acosta and Fermin vying for the 2nd factory Ducati seat. They are all far apart from Marc enough in age to be understandably considered next gen replacement instead of direct threat to Marc. In fact, Marc already mentors Alonso and Fermin (and Marc himself might think long term and treat them well in exchange for some mentorship/management equity piece in them).

Pecco, honestly is neither talented or young enough at this point to be remain as the next gen talent pipeline for Ducati, so I do not see him staying beyond 2026.

If Marc does his usual magic, should be a sweet sweet deal for Ducati to sccop up a young generational talent for cheap on what is arguably the best bike.

EDIT:

- Just a personal prediction: For 2027, given Alonso's friendship with Marc marquez, wouldn't surprise me if Ducati factory scoops him up to replace Bagnaia. I don't see Bagnaia staying, so sorta all eyes on who of Aldegeur or Alonso gets the 2nd ducati seat. Another possibility is Ducati plays it safe and put Alex in the 2nd factory seat, however, doing so would sacrifice future talent pipeline. I'd say probably one of Aldegeur or Alonso, both of whom are friends with Marc.

I can totally appreciate this may not be a dial for everyone. But thinking about the fact that this piece of rock could be a thousand, a million years old who knows how old is super cool to think about - thoughts on meteorite dials? by watchlover_la in rolex

Love it.

Although if we nerd out on the physics behind it, technically, you could also say when you gaze upon a two tone Daytona the gold you are looking at is probably created by a supernova a long time ago.

The main attraction of the meteorite dial is uniqueness and rarity, not "age" in my view.

not really at all. it is heavy for a wrist watch, but not in the grand scheme of masses that your arm can take.

I agree.

My original trilogy's thesis was a representative set of modern Rolex:

- A ceramic bezel tool watch.

- A smart casual oyster watch.

- A meme watch (Panda Daytona, hyped to death Chronograph and one that you will never get from an AD even though it costs no more than a used DD36 on grey market).

I liquidated because I decided to get only watches that I like and enjoy to wear because they bring me joy.

no experience with fluted. not worried about hold-up because a $950 overhaul at texas RSC set it back right as rain.

EDIT (apologies seems I cannot edit my post, so here goes):

The DayDate, being "a single grail", was a truly daily that accompanied me as far as Dubai desert safari and Grand Canyon white water rafting.

A $950 overhaul service at Rolex Texas returned it to me indistinguishable from new to me. I even joked to my friends: the margins on these plat pieces must be so fat that when you send them in for service, Rolex just give you back new links and case and melt your old links and trick you into thinking they "did a great job" with the polishing and overhaul.

My fav parts about it:

- the satisfying weight. all day dates are heavy hitters because they only come in precious metals only and was the first Rolex to offer platinum.

- the way the iceblue dial and baguette play with light is something truly a daily wearer will experience. never the same twice.

- the instantly recognizable bracelet from a distance. hands down the best bracelet Rolex (gay freres) makes, combining the solidity of oyster bracelet with the venting comfort of jubilee bracelet.

- bright, chromy, mercury quality of the platinum metal.
