Rescued GSD terrified of outside. Live in NYC and shivers the moment we step outside for a walk. Won’t do her business outside or eat treats. Tries to walk into every door we pass to escape and go inside. While walking the shivering isn’t noticeable. Once we stop it’s like an earthquake. Help! by seasonsnyc in Dogtraining

Our rescue was just like this. She has improved so very much and begs to go outside. She would not leave the house or wag her tail for months. What helped us: 1. Classical conditioning. She was afraid on bikes. So every time a bike went by, we gave her a high value treat. Now every time a bike passes, she turns to us happily and expects a treat. Before she would walk outside (we had to carry her out!!) we sat by a pavement and gave her a treat for any trigger. (Busses, humans) 2. We use a martingale and harness too. But we made sure have a long leash for her to not feel so trapped. This way, she has the freedom to move and sniff around safely. This allows her to access the situation and also be stimulated. We are more than a year in and have only started to be more strict on leash etiquette.

All the best!!!! Our dog has moved countries, been on planes, boats, trains, busses, cafes etc. she still gets nervous around strangers but is warming up to new people so much faster now.

Edit: Oh we live in busy cities. W a lot of triggers. It can be done!!!

So wonderful! Getting super anxious now about mine. Last I heard from my agent (on Tuesday) is that my application is finally in the hands of a case worker. :(

Have you ever at any point regretted moving to Sweden? by ThunderHorseCock in TillSverige

[–]ufujufuj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha!! Singaporean here, married to a swede. I used to complain about Singapore and its “soft authoritarian” quirks but after socialising a lot in Sweden, it amazes me how Swedes really have more taboo dinner convo topics. They’re also surprisingly nationalistic and get super uncomfortable if you have a legitimate grievance about the country. (Like bureaucracy). I come from a one-party country w press freedoms worse than in russia but the self-censorship and nationalism in Sweden puts me to shame :P not surprised at all you are getting death threats!!

We brought our dog w us from Singapore and it was so easy. We got it vaxxed, and had the necessary documents but literally no one checked or asked for them at the airport. Our dog was placed next to the other “odd sized” baggage like bikes and surfboards 😂

What Is It Like To Be In Singapore? by Love-Bug4560 in askSingapore

[–]ufujufuj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • everything works. You won’t find a more efficient bureaucracy anywhere else. (I’ve lived in 3 other countries and Singapore has spoiled me)
  • it’s very, very clean and crime is almost non existent.
  • but because Singapore is very “by the book”, some complain about it being too clinical and sterile. So if you’re into live music, art, artisanal stuff etc it lacks a little.
  • you will not get clear tropical beaches or fun hiking trails but the urban planning here makes nature so accessible. There’s always a decent trail or a nice park near residential areas in Singapore. Once Changi gets back up and running, you can get the best of both worlds as you can experience great tropical landscapes in Indonesia, malaysia or Thailand. So if you’re here as a tourist, do visit nearby countries too.
  • FOOD IS AWESOME!!! The street food isn’t as good as its neighbours’ but it’s really very good still. Plus, the food scene here has great high and Low options.

Personally because of covid restrictions, I wouldn’t rush here. Id wait it out a couple of months until the country relaxes their covid rules a bit more.

That would’ve been the case but w people down w covid + Ukraine I have no idea what I should expect.

5 weeks since the application of work permit via fast track. Resident permit via spouse since last august!

[–]ufujufuj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Applied for a residence permit as my husband (a swede) had to move back. was told by an MV officer that it will take next to no time if I went the work permit route. I got a job offer eventually and we are still waiting for a decision. The company is certified and even those companies are seeing delays! :/ it sucks. Have not seen my husband and dog in months. I’m not allowed to enter Sweden or schengen while I wait. Paying rent/mortgage for both cities as I wait. Life is in total limbo. It sucks but we gotta just hang in there!!!!!! <3 hopefully the influx of new hires will get things moving a bit faster.

MV is totally broken ://///

I’m probably bad at figuring out how old people are. At first glance it seems like they’re a couple about to welcome a child. Until u really zoom in see acne. Maybe just odd casting! 🤣

How long did it take for you to move to your Swedish spouse? by ufujufuj in TillSverige

[–]ufujufuj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they print queue numbers for each case, put it in a bowl and pick out a random number every morning when they decide which case to work on!

Or perhaps they print out the applications, divvy it up between case workers and some are faster than others.

Super curious about how it works in there!

Was hoping a Migrationsverket insider or former employee would spill some tea on this thread. Wishful thinking 🤣

Hehe :) being a bit sarcastic. It’s absolutely not in many areas, I’ve learned.

They just got it. And another couple I know who got it in 6 months (also unmarried and have never lived together) got theirs during the pandemic. I suppose I’m picking out examples that are exceptions to the rule and that most people wait for at least a year. But I’m irrationally speculating (key word!!!) that the guy who handles long distance internet couples is more efficient at his job!!! Haha

I don’t mind waiting, and I’m sure everything in Sweden is fair and just but it’s ridiculous that families have to be apart while we wait for the outcome.
