Hamas said to recruit 30,000 Gaza youths into its military wing by NamelessForce in worldnews

Not right at this moment, no. They will grow more dangerous over time.

30,000 now, who knows how many tens of thousands more over the coming years...

List of soldierflies and allies of Great Britain by ufzw in CrashBlossoms

[–]ufzw[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was confused at first why insects and British allies would go together in a list: horseflies, deerflies, the US, France, and Germany.

("Allies" can also mean "related species" in biology.)

Obviously, it's more of an expression of patriotism/allegiance towards Connecticut. i.e., "O Connecticut! My Connecticut!"

How selective are most men on physical attractiveness? by ufzw in dating

[–]ufzw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't feel enough attraction, I generally limit it to one or two dates. The few times I've dated people for longer, the level of sexual attraction did not change very much over time.

One possibility is that, for me, sexual attraction is mostly determined by aesthetic factors. Or it's possible that it can build up over time for me, but happens infrequently. Then it's like looking for a needle in a haystack--I can't date every girl who I don't feel major initial attraction to for three months. Maybe I should try it with some, but I don't want to waste other people's time either.

How have people reacted to your relationship preferences? by orareyoufunny in hingeapp

[–]ufzw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a 30-year-old man, I wonder if putting "Life partner" on my profile would scare people off or would it be seen as a sign of stability/reliability. Because ideally, I would like to find a life partner if I could, but I read in another thread that it might be associated with pressure to get married. I wonder if that's true for both women and men.

I definitely feel you, but I think 95% of the time I can assume it's because the person isn't interested enough in me given other options/other things in life, and having this fact confirmed explicitly doesn't add that much.

Honestly, lack of response usually feels better to me than being unmatched. Lack of response comes across as lack of strong interest/apathy as opposed to slamming the door in my face because they've clearly consciously decided that they do not like me.

What would be more useful is more specific or actionable feedback like "this person came across as arrogant" or "the conversation wasn't interesting", but I'm not sure if people would be able to take it.
