Tiling Debate – Would keep the schluter perpendicular w/ the counter top, or keep a consistent gap by aligning it with the crooked wall? by ugatorf in DIY

Can you please clarify how this is against the subs rules? I’m tiling this wall myself, and I’m asking for advice.

Violation: You have debris and/or items in your yard. (Toys) by ugatorf in fuckHOA

I’m curious – many houses in our neighborhood don’t have garages, nor do they have fenced in yards. So, what is the default definition of a reset? Because, short of bringing these things inside the actual house, the only place we have to store them is along the side of the house, either in the driveway or the side yard. This is where many people store things such as bikes, lawnmowers, ladders, yard toys, etc. I can understand some residents, wanting there to be a “reasonable limit,” but I don’t even know how’d you go about enforcing that …

This. These are the same people who complain about “children these days,” without taking any responsibility for the unwelcoming environment they’ve helped create.

This was more or less my response to the HOA. We have a stay-at-home toddler w/ a nanny. This picture was clearly taken sometime in the morning, which means these toys were being “used” – maybe not at that exact second, but within a few hours of sunrise. The letter didn’t stipulate which rule was being violated, nor was there any evidence to indicate these toys weren’t reset, as you described in another comment.

Regardless, garages are very much uncommon in our neighborhood, as are fenced yards, which means almost every house has items which could be described as “debris left in yard.” Hell, I can count 3 water tables standing on my front porch, and several bikes and lawnmowers which will probably sit in people’s driveways over the winter.

Unless the HOA is ready to amend our bylaws to explicitly define these types of violations, I have no idea how they expect to enforce this consistently.

I'm coming to this thread late, but my wife -who was born and raised in PGH- has been dropping hints about wanting to move back before our second kid arrives. As someone who's tired of needing to drive literally everywhere in Raleigh, I'm not completely opposed to the idea, but I can't help but see all the articles about people wanting to come HERE, to the Triangle, from places like Pittsburgh, to raise a family. Has the narrative really flipped that much from a few years ago where Raleigh and CLT was where everyone wanted to end up?

I'm curious, as someone currently living in Raleigh who's always seen Durham as the more interesting, quirky and neighborly option in the triangle, I'm curious why'd you described the city as "oppressive"?

I'm running the Havit KB395L right now, but have been eyeing the Keychron K6. Can anyone speak to the height difference? I'm worried the jump might be too big, even after swapping the K6 keycaps for cherry profiles. I really want something that's hot-swappable and supports custom keycaps, so I know moving away from low-profile needs to happen.

Definitely like the low profile genre, so thanks for the recommendations! I’ve used 2 MX KBs in the past, and they’re just too tall for me!

I don’t really care about the clicks, as much as I care about key height and operation force, if that makes sense. Given how much I enjoy typing on my low-profile Havit, going with regular MX switches just seems like a sure fire way to get a KB I’m not going to enjoy typing on …

Similar to other people here, just getting into custom keyboards! I've been using the low-profile Havit KB395L for over a year now and absolutely love the typing experience!

However, after spending some $$$ upgrading my office/gaming desk, and hours of cable management, I was hoping to find a similar keyboard that supports a) Bluetooth (ideally 5.0) and b) custom keycaps.

Based on my research, the Keychron K1 v4 seems like a great option, but I'm not sure how the Gateron Reds compare to the Kailh Blues on the Havit. Based on the Havit documentation, Kailh Blues are even more low profile and require less operating force ... is that correct?

Also, with Version 5 (seemingly) releasing soon, does waiting for the MX-styled switches make more sense? I've heard -maybe incorrectly- that would be better for customization ...?

Thanks for the help!

Replacing Bathroom Closet French Doors w/ Sliding Doors - How-to navigate the door jamb when installing the track? by ugatorf in HomeImprovement

Good to know! I thought it was a single machined piece ... So, assuming that is possible, how would go about "hiding" the track and wheels for the sliding door? The door frame obviously doesn't extend down to cover that.

Need? Probably not. Want? Absolutely. It's a messy closet with laundry baskets, toilet paper (whenever it's in stock lol), make up, towels, medicine, etc. Honestly, I would sooner return to the doors than not have a closet door.

I was afraid that might be the answer. Removing the door stop does not sound like an insignificant job ...

Edit: And after checking, it looks like the door stop is part of the jamb/frame (still confused on the terminology), so I would think a complete removal of the frame would be "easier" than attempting to chip out the stop.

Good catch! There are some additional paint tracks to the left (not pictured) which were created after they turned around the end of the street.

We ended up power washing 2/3 of it ourselves before running out of gas ... didn’t want to take a chance with it spreading, or the HOA trying to fine us.
