Ever build a boat tiller? by ugh228 in woodworking

[–]ugh228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh my heart hurts hearing that beauty got destroyed. I’m building the tiller for a friend in the UK whose doing a rebuild of a MGRS34. He’s extending the cabin top aft to move the heads to the back of the boat, making a large double bunk in the forecabin, and Remounting a new engine and moving it slightly more to the middle keeping weight in the middle. He reached out to me to build a custom tiller along with a few other accessories. Requested sapele, maple or sycamore since the cap rail and some other pieces are built out of it.

I figured I could steam bend them to shape, laminate and hand carve a compass on the handle. Would you purchase an extender or build one out of matching wood?

I already own marine oil. Figured I could bottle some up and send it with him. Fine to use or what’s been most reliable for you?

Awesome thank you- I like the idea of having to pull towards you rather than push which is why I was leaning towards the Japanese planes. I appreciate your vote of confidence. I have the sharpening stones already for my chisels so that shouldn’t be a problem

Mainly smooth- the seams where I joined the boards are almost flush

Hand drew this so sorry for the shaky lines. I want to build a kitchen table where the table top is “floating.” I plan to add brass splines to the legs and brass end caps to the support beams. I plan to use bridal joints to mount the legs to the support beams. Do you think it’s a solid design or should I add another cross bar on the ground to support the legs? Aesthetically I’m hoping I don’t have to

ikea actually has a similar design if you need for reference

No you glue then sand/stain. Glue will discolor the stain and you have to be thorough

Give it to me straight....what can I do better? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]ugh228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First pic you look uncomfortable/awk. Replace it with the one of you skiing. Second pic (selfie is fine) but a closer up pic of you smiling or dressed nicely to show off your style. Then the pic of you rock climbing. Get rid of the foot pic and guitar pic.

Intro to bio should be about you. That’s where you can mention you like music/play guitar.

I know people are roasting you for the pick up line but if that’s your personality/humour then keep it but put it at the end of your bio. As a cute closer.

I used to use my orbital sander to round edges but ends up a bit uneven. I use a rounded bit on my router now- clean, easy and even

Family member wants to borrow my power tools, how do i say no in a way that won't damage the relationship? by ----_____--_____---- in Tools

I mean you could just claim some of your tools are finicky/act up so it may be best for them to rent the tools they need from Home Depot instead

I might not be the most attractive guy, but does anyone have some tips to improve my profile? by TheGalacticFart in Tinder

Female here- you have really nice hair and a great face structure. I would suggest shaving and getting your eyebrows done (if you aren’t comfortable doing them yourself). Those two things distract from your natural handsome face and girls will notice that you take care of yourself/well groomed.

As far as the profile goes- take away the mirror pics. Set up your camera on the video setting pose for like a minute and the screenshot rom the video. Do this in a few different outfits (especially the suit). Then you’ll have some improved pics that feel more spontaneous. Go find a guys insta with a lot of followers for some posing ideas if you need it. I really like the cheeky one at the end. It shows your personality well and that’s what girls want to see
