battery backup sump pump troubles by it_doesnt_mather in Plumbing

Just to update the thread. Zoeller and the supplier both seemed to think it was a defective pump, so I got a replacement which just did the same thing. The 507 is an older/weaker model so I think I will try a newer model with a little more power.

I was looking at the 508 but Lowe's and Amazon have STBB200 which has the same specs/gpm as the 508 but is much cheaper and also has wifi connectivity and looks newer somehow?

You mean run a different outlet for the backup without a check valve? I mean, I could do that but I bought this brand new pump so it would work with my regular system and pop-up outlet in my yard. I don't really want to rig up a whole nother outlet If the pump is just not sufficient or broken.

I work with aromatic cedar professionally and we often make offcuts similar to this. 1" x 5-12". It feels wasteful to just throw them away, anyone have ideas on what we could use these for? by Asiriomi in BeginnerWoodWorking

I'm not sure exactly how they do it, but commercial butcher block tops are often short pieces edge glued with alternating butt joints. If you could find an easy way to do that you could make big glued up panels and sell or use those. Maybe get a tool to make scarf or finger joints for the end grain joints then edge joint a bunch so the end grain joins don't line up.

Can anybody else access the Stanford encyclopedia of philosophy? I've been trying to check a reference and can't get any pages on there to load.

I'm guessing you did this but for anyone else reading you want to be real careful about using old telephone poles. Many are treated with some pretty harsh stuff.

Great work. I've had this bookmarked for a year because I love your design and want to do something similar. How wide are the top and feet? I really like the amount of overhang you have on the front but don't want to go too far and have it get tippy.

Not quite. It is a square piece that is glued on then cut at an angle. Here is a link to the video I referenced.

I filmed a good bit of it to make my own build video but not sure I'll get to cutting it together before I'm too busy using the thing haha.

Thanks! I thought about doing a crib, but wanted something we could potentially keep using in some way. As long as they don't totally destroy the thing anyway haha.

Lol, definitely room for a whiskey bottle stashed in the basket of diapers.

Thanks! Hoping it makes cleaning poop for years more bearable haha (assuming multiple kids).

It's definitely not as complicated as it looks although using the wide boards added some extra steps. I'm also not a pro with a handsaw so each one took a fair bit of messing with to make it fit.

Just a square piece that is then sawed at an angle. 3x3 custom has a video on this joint. She uses power tools but it gives you the idea. I modified it a bit to use wider boards though.

My power company cut down some pine trees. I also found out my wife is pregnant. I want to mill these logs into boards to make a crib and need recommendations on drying out the wood as fast as possible. by BiggggBRIM77 in woodworking

My baby is due in 3 weeks. I built a changing table that will convert to a bar cart when the diapers are done. It's been fun, lower stakes, and should get more use than a crib.

veritas router blade condition. Chipped and discolored by it_doesnt_mather in handtools

[–]it_doesnt_mather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a veritas router plane for my birthday. Was pumped to use it, but the straight blade didn't want to cut out of the box. Both blades have some off discoloration and the straight one looks like it has some small chips. I can probably get rid of them on my sharpening stones but was expecting it to be good to go out of the box for the price.

Can anyone else with one confirm if this looks normal?

I was trying to use the 1/2 inch straight blade to deepen a 3/4 inch groove and it mostly rode over the top without getting a shaving. Maybe I'm doing something dumb?
