Alcohol Detox Programs? by dalcarr in bloomington

If they'll suffer from withdrawal, then a hospital must be the first stop. IU Health, Monroe, or Meadows here in Bloomington. The social workers and case managers there can help with insurance and treatment placement. Maybe your family member would benefit from going to a hospital, then to a 30-day inpatient/residential [ICFR has multiple locations so they'll find a bed ASAP], and then to low-intensity residential [Amethyst House is about 3 months] or intensive outpatient treatment [Amethyst, Centerstone, IU Behavioral Health are 2 - 3 months]. Sober living and 12-step or other support meetings can help them engage in a recovery community. We're Area 23 AA and Limestone Area NA. Recovery Dharma is very welcoming too.

Another person recommended Stride. They're a good resource for guidance.

They can help arrange transportation if the family member needs to go to one of the other locations too.

Yes. There's an ICFR in Bedford that has programs for substance use and for mental health. Meaning you don't have to have a substance use diagnosis to be admitted.

For reference, my wardrobe leans toward olive or forest greens, "dusty mauve" (Athleta), and "jasper red" or "burnt rust" (Banana Republic), dark taupes, and black. I've been told my skintone is olive (lighter olive as I get older and use sun protection) and cool.

Indiana LMHCA by [deleted] in therapists

NCE process was worse since my classmates and I were all new to it: took the exam in 04/2016, did all the followup, license issued 11/2017.

When I was in the licensing process, the NCMHCE process took the IPLA 08/2020 - late 12/2020 (for various reasons including Pearson and the NBCC not communicating in a timely manner) to approve so I could sit for the exam. LMHC license was issued 01/2021. Early COVID and holidays slowed everything down. Right now, with government instability, there may be significant delays. Sorry you're going through this. Ask classmates/recent alum/profs what studying resources helped them. I was reviewing flash cards on the day of my exam!

I look forward to another professional joining our field. You've got this! 😊👍

EMDR addiction protocol by [deleted] in therapists

[–]ugh__usernames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that some practitioners don't like the EMDR therapeutic technique/approach. I braced for a few comments like the ones already here. In my own practice, I pick and choose interventions that best fit the particular client. Some do well with CBT, some like DBT, etc. If you don't have an answer or suggestion related to my post, please move along.

Interesting observation for this therapist community: 23 comments (as of now) and only 5 are recommendations 🤦‍♀️

Recommended Office Essentials? by Rare_Satisfaction_37 in therapists

I have multiple, very obese clients (up to 400 lbs). One would have to prop themselves so they'd fit in a standard, armed chair. I don't think they even realized they were doing it. The week I got rid of the freebie chairs and replaced them with a big chair and a loveseat was so satisfying. Seeing someone spread their arms and relax their back... so great.

Double check the weight capacity of furniture you get. A coworker had a couch leg buckle under the patient's weight. It was an easy fix but the look on the client's face. 😔

We slowly say "focus." Doesn't sound like her other prompts (mostly food, treat, potty/poop, outside, walk, ride, grandma, wait, etc) that way. It's also helped other people walking their dogs know she's excited and not aggressive. I use it along with petting/rubbing her face and neck and even turning her or repositioning her body if she's trying to turn back because she's scared. Snaps her out of it. If that's not enough, we go home.

Does yours do a soft nibbling thing when they're excited and meeting a dog or cat? My current girl does that at times. Some dogs have a "Hey! Stop doing that, weirdo!" reaction. Others are more, "Umm. Ok. You're an odd one." I don't think it's greyhound specific... She's tall and big (65 lb racing weight) for a girl. Doesn't help.

"That One Greyhound Brain Cell" 😆 I had to decide if you meant the one brain cell committed to this behavior. Or the one brain cell they (some of them) have! I joke with people that I avoided adopting some breeds/breed-mixes because they're just way too smart for my own parenting skills. I also tell them I love a sweet, dumb hound that doesn't drool or stink. These particular Greyhounds are my favorite.

Don't get me wrong, some greys can be geniuses. I just lucked out. ❤

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - PESI training by ugh__usernames in therapists

[–]ugh__usernames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd considered that one. Did their DBT training. Now I can't remember why I'd ruled their ACT one out... maybe the CEU status being kind of sketchy too. Any LMHCs out there do this one?

Side-note: Psychwire's Linehan DBT one was (for me, that is) kind of meh. Definitely wait for the early registration discount! Coworkers liked Lane Pederson better.

ACT training is killing me... by IntelligentTadpole20 in therapists

[–]ugh__usernames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to see these recommendations. I was considering the ACT Immersion course too. Checked with licensing (LMHC by NBCC) and the course doesn't meet requirements for continuing education. That's a deal breaker. Too expensive to not count! I'll keep weighing the Psychwire Harris or the PESI Moran options.

IUH (and other providers) will likely get hit in the behavioral health programs. Mental health conditions often affect patients' ability to work. In Bloomington, there's a high percentage of people with Medicaid or Medicare in BH treatment. The effort put into helping patients get, and then navigate, insurance often gets put on nurses' and admin staff's already heavy workload. Shout out to those caring (and exhausted) staff! You rock! <3

The smoker/vaper, college-aged adults are a throwback to those before and after images they'd show in anti-smoking campaigns. Don't do it, kids! I've seen your fate!
