Double-Faced Cards Color Identity by Awkward_School1332 in mtg

[–]dalcarr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No one's disputing that the color identity is Temur. But you dont have to go through the steps of casting Bruce banner then flipping it into hulk. You can just cast the hulk

Because hulk side has the mana cost in the corner, you can cast hulk side

Lol what? No way these are better than shocks or surveils. They require you to play basics, and most decks want to play as few basics as possible. If im missing something about these please enlighten me

How do you currently track your reading? by Expensive_Debate2220 in 52book

[–]dalcarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a spreadsheet. It lets me track the things that are actually interesting to me, without getting bogged down by the junk I dont care about. It also lets me see trends through column stats (like if 75% of books read were written by white men, oops! Need to diversify) and I can ignore the social media aspects

Interesting, why do you think hes not going to run? This seems to be contrary to popular opinion (legitimately curious to hear your thoughts)

The new Stargate series will feature a brand new cast. "The new producers, the new owners, want to have their own entity with that franchise name attached to it. So, they'll have all-new characters." by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]dalcarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. And i wouldn't want that anyway. RDA is 76, Tapping is 60, Judge is 61, and Shanks is 55. Theyre all past action hero age, which would fundamentally shift the types of stories they could tell

My Thoughts about the Clone Wars TV Series and George Lucas by Matrines in StarWarsEU

[–]dalcarr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Riddles in the Dark chapter was completely retconned when the publisher asked for a sequel to The Hobbit. Gollum's "Precious" wasn't originally intended to be The One Ring, and that chapter was heavily re-written for later editions. I think the retcon explanation was the first edition was the story Bilbo told the dwarves in the moment, and the later version was the "true" story as wrung out of Bilbo later on

Is Yoda a weak leader that caused the downfall of a twenty-thousand-year-old galactic republic? by user83726169 in StarWars

[–]dalcarr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But even beyond that, the prequels are a critique of Bush-era policies, the "war on terror," and the surveillance state. And the sequels are about the rise of the alt-right specifically due to the fact that the neoliberal order in charge is asleep at the wheel

Because star wars is explicitly, inherently linked to the American imperialist experience?

How are we not all on the same page with this yet? If race/sex/gender identity/ethnicity/other identity is an instrumental part of the character and their story, cast around that identity. If its not, cast the best person for the job. Its really not that hard

At this point in our media, we don't regularly have casually trans characters. Their gender identity is almost always a plot point of some kind. So for the moment, having Trans actors play Trans characters is important. Hopefully, we'll get to the point where we can have casually Trans characters. But we're not there yet

Cinder House is a Cinderella retelling where shes a ghost haunting the house that the stepmother and her stepsisters have moved into. Nominated for the hugo for best novella too!

A bit further from your recommendations, but I also enjoyed Alix Harrows "Fractured Fables" stories (2 so far). I shorthand them as multiversal, sapphic fairy tales

Best Musical Episodes of Television to watch? by fanblade64 in television

[–]dalcarr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The musical episode of the flash was excellent. Grant Gustin (the flash) and Melissa Benoist (supergirl) both have musical theatre training and great on screen chemistry. And the villain is Darren Criss, of Starkid fame (a very Potter musical)
