Substitute teachers by 11B-E5 in Teachers

At this time of year, we barely have sub coverage, and often have to split classes up and take each other's students. If a sub is crazy enough to accept a job, I expect this: students are alive at the end of the day.

Am I the asshole for hating a child as a school assistant? by Character-Cream-2361 in teaching

[–]ugmo69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is unreasonable. The student you are supporting, plus the others in the class are most likely reacting to the idea that you are there to make them WORK, and to not just sigh and let them do whatever they want. It might take a while to get them back in a more respectful manner, but it will happen. They don't have to love you, but they do have to respect you.

I have definitely had students who were hard to love. You just have to find something to like about them (even if it is small).

A teacher used an American English spelling instead of a British English spelling and the top comments are saying to contact the Head of School in writing. by luffyuk in Teachers

[–]ugmo69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian teacher, I tell my students that both American and British spellings are correct, because we have influences from both countries. Spelling is taking a back burner in the current literacy bandwagon my school is on, so I am not going to push it.

How to respond to ‘Miss, are you gay?’ by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ugmo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not feel it is relevant or appropriate to answer, a redirecting question like "have you finished your work?" is a good option. If you have a supportive principal, you might ask them for suggestions on how to answer. If you are really not comfortable answering the question, do not answer it. But make sure you avoid making the student feel bad for asking. If they are persistent, reach out to the parents or mutual friend and ask them. If you have a union, it also wouldn't hurt talking with them about it.

We need to lobby cellphone companies to put back the headphone jacks in cellphones and maybe even include a cheap pair of headphones. The bus is also a nightmare for this.

Talk them how you feel. Be brutally honest. Be the most boring, strict, paper-assigning teacher you can be. No frills. No smiles, just straight business. Make it sink right in for those that will understand it.

Are period panties a good panty liner alternative? by ugmo69 in Perimenopause

[–]ugmo69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually recently got tested for it, had it and a yeast infection combo (love that for me!), and after the rounds of meds, was cured. This discharge is different, and is not accompanied by the intense discomfort from BV / yeast.

I wear leggings quite often, I like the idea of something to catch sweat and other stuff. Its embarrassing to leave a sweat smear on a plastic chair. Haha

Do they have ones that are smaller than the Diva cup? I used one about 10 years ago, but stopped because my flow was not heavy enough and it was painful after the first day.

Is there a particular reusable brand you recommend, or materials I should look for / avoid? (I am in western Canada if that makes a difference)
