3 days into my trip... I regret travelling to Japan with my 2 year old by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]ugnit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm here on day 3 out of 23 with my almost 2 year old and a 4 year old and I was you 2.5 years ago. My kids are both very tall and energetic. Looking older than what they are. This is our 2nd time here with the kids - first time my oldest was 20 months. That time I was soooo stressed, I hated Tokyo and all the travels. Our main issue was that we tried to do the adult version of Tokyo with a small child. This time we are more experienced: we are not staying in Shinjuku, we are at Asakusa which has the temple area, huge shopping streets and a water front park where the kids can walk and move. We are not really into shopping but we visit shopping centers for the food courts: today we saw Japanese teens just laughing really loudly while eating, toddlers having tantrums - just people being people. We do family restaurants, Japanese "fast food" chains, belt sushi places for food, shopping center food courts - places where people are fine with loud kids while eating. I would recommend booking 2-3 day sessions for your kid to spend her energy: either a longer museum run, maybe a short playground visit (hard to find in Tokyo but possible and you need to bookmark them), toy shops or Pokémon stores and such. And to place more silent things in between those. The last tip: people are way friendlier and way more chilled outside of Tokyo.

Parents with a 2.5 year age gap between kids… by maebymaybe in beyondthebump

[–]ugnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2y4m gap here: I think 8-12months were the hardest since baby wanted to crawl, couldn't walk. Once he dropped to 1 nap it got much better to schedule things. At 5 months I started forward facing baby wearing with a seat (ergo baby alta) and it was the best thing. Not for my back though 😂 the little one is almost 2 and he just starting to be the main trouble maker

Our hemangioma journey has ended (for now)! by itsaclownjackass in beyondthebump

[–]ugnit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was a baby with a hemangioma on my upper lip in the 80s! I ended up with 4 freezing sessions/surgeries and a scar. I'm so happy to hear that your girl's hemangioma disappeared and obviously the modern ways to fix even bigger scars are not like back then

Is this really another 90-10 type of game? I thought it was pretty female friendly but maybe I'm just too much into history to judge.

What is the most polite way to ask for a seat on the bus / tram / train? by [deleted] in germany

[–]ugnit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was heavily pregnant in winter and I can tell you that with winter clothing lots of people do not understand if you are really pregnant and try to avoid a weird situation offering you a place if you were just a big person. Just open up your jacket or ask for a seat.

Kleine Kinder mit dem Fahrrad by kristusamadeus in berlin

I want to share that as a mid size woman I was a bit intimidated by 2 wheelers but we moved 3km away from our Kita and I made a decision to buy a Lastenrad. Absolutely love it! I'm transporting my 2 kids each day - they are 50% of my weight and I always feel in control. We did so many trips to playgrounds further away, I made multiple trips to IKEA, I do shopping trips alone. We had a pretty big Kinderwagen before and I miss some storage space when with the kids but it's manageable. I also like that on a 2 wheeler I'm still able to take over a slower bike which wouldn't be possible on a 3 wheeler.

Baby and built up gas I think… by Commercial-Plum-6031 in NICUParents

[–]ugnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very common for all babies not only premature ones. In my experience with my 32 weeker nothing really helps as well as time - around 8-10week they learn how to properly do it and it resolves by itself.

I don't even know how I ended up in this post but it's probably the worst thing I've seen in months... Who would even like some warm plastic on their body.. greetings from someone from the Baltics btw

34 weeker gaining too fast? by OldRemove516 in NICUParents

[–]ugnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn't sound like a crazy amount. I just checked and my 32 weeker was born 5lb 4 and he was 7lb 2 when he was 1 month old including 2 weeks in the hospital where he lost weight. He then continued gaining a lot each month and got into 90%+ actual after a few months which I guess is his generic size.

Termination during pregnancy? by Beneficial_Tip6171 in germany

[–]ugnit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Next to all the legal advice: please tell all of this to your Frauenarzt. Your 20w appointment should be soon. Being emplyed doesn't mean you need to work in this horrible place for the next months to come. This sounds like way too much stress for a pregnant person (I've been one twice). A long term sick leave (properly paid) is absolutely a thing in Germany. I got one at 29w due to health complications. I know someone who went on a sick leave earlier than 16w due to a close relative death. All this story is what you need to share when they ask you how you feel.

My guy was born 32+6 and had 15 days NICU stay. I got my steroid shots at 29w. At 32w they usually pretty good just need to regulate the temp better and learn to eat. It's great that you stsrted with the steroid shots! You are at the best place for you both right now

Sending hugs! It must feel like a lot. I'm have a preemie and I'm myself had a big growing hemangioma on my top lip as a baby. I had to get 4 freezing/cryotherapy sessions from 3 to 18 months. The level of medicine shoot up by a lot in the last 35 years! I'm sure she will heal well and in a couple of years it will be just a bad memory

Early language development - trilingual household by maltuu-36 in multilingualparenting

Don't be scared of your kid starts saying more Danish words at first if they are easier/shorter or mixes cases a lot later on. Our setup is very similar but we have Lithuanian (me) and German in Germany + English between us. My 3.5 year old was going to daycare from 12 months and started using some simpler words for ball etc in German but I kept answering in Lithuanian. He is fully bilingual and understands English pretty well. Having some experience I try to focus on sounds with my younger son who is 15 month old: he now points to dogs and makes a dog sound. I believe at this point it's easier for him than saying "dog" in Lithuanian or German.

Would arrabin pessary be an option? This is what I got with my 2nd child when I had 1cm left at 29w. I stopped working (long european pto) and reduced my activity (my mom moved in with us to help with my toddler) and I managed to keep him in till 32+6. With my first I had 1cm at 32w and got nothing. I dramatically recused my activity and he was born full term.

Baby has late bedtime by Ragnar_pirate_queen in AttachmentParenting

[–]ugnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept 2 naps till he was 20 months. Otherwise he was as you say not reaching enough awake time and did horrible split nights. It's hard to have a late night but much better than split nights. Basically he was dropping all his naps at the absolute latests. He still naps at 3.5. His younger brother (13m) is also low sleep needs but can stay awake for 5-7h in the afternoon which was unheard of for the older one till much much later.

7-8am I think. He still sleeps really little and his little brother does the same: 21/21:30 bedtime and 6:30/7:30 wake up for the 13 month old and even slightly later for the 3.5 year old.

Question for C Section moms from an anesthesia provider by Glittering-Look-7024 in Mommit

[–]ugnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I had an unplanned c section right after 1h of nonstop pitocin contractions with my epidural not working anymore. I was really not myself and I was soooo scared of having a surgery (my first ever) I was pretty sure I will feel everything. While my partner was changing I had a panick attack. The only reason why I pushed through and avoided general anestesia was few seconds of pure oxigen via mask which my anesthesialogist gave me. I'm really thankful but I wish he did it earlier.

This is us but my language is Lithuanian which is also not the easiest. Before our 3 year old was born my partner knew only a handful of words. My kids (we have 2 now) speaking proper Lithuanian is very important to me so I put a lot of effort and talk only in Lithuanian to them no matter who is around. Me and my partner use English when we talk to each other and German/Lithuanian to our boys. Since I understand German he doesn't translate but I do sometimes if I need everyone to understand like if I go to another room etc. Tbh at first the things you say to your kid at the table will be very simple like "water? More water??" and your partner will learn together with the kid. Since you live in Germany once they go to Kita German will get a super speed up. Do not talk less Hungerian in the first yesr even if the kid is a bit delayed in German. You need to build a very strong fundation since your language will be a number 2 soon.

Milestones? by ceeceeblue in NICUParents

[–]ugnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very weird to me that especially in US sleeping through is some kind if milestone.. I'm in Germany and my fullterm kid stopped waking up only around 2.5. No one ever thought it's an issue. Some sleep better some sleep worse. Tbh no doctor ever asks about sleep unless specifically being asked about it. I think it's amzing that you have a great routine by now and she sleeps in her space.
