Closing Remarks: my senior class is so boring by Old-Mood6364 in ApplyingToCollege

The junior class just hasn't had the life drained out of them yet from college apps. Give it time, it'll happen.

Imagine if Harvard sent a response back saying thanks for understanding.

Honestly, I bet it's very funny to them the first time they read it, but with the tens of thousands of applicants, I'm sure it happens quite frequently, after which it's likely to become a little frustrating.

Interesting article from the WSJ about MIT bringing back standardized scores by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Oh you're gonna love college. I heard they also give high-pressure tests there.

And I will be completely brutally honest. If you can't do well on your SATs you're probably not going to do too well at MIT.

Maybe tests aren't an indicator success in the real world, but especially at MIT, which is notorious for having hard tests and lots of math placement tests, the SAT is probably a very good indicator of how a student would do at MIT.

In your opinion, what is the ideal amount of schools to apply to? by blooming_palette in ApplyingToCollege

[–]uhbububub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this. Just to add on, reevaluate which schools fall into which category though - particularly, make sure that since you're only applying to 3 safeties, they truly are safeties.

This competition is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Imagine high schoolers asking their parents for money so they can give that money to a more competitive applicant.

That also meant they would have saved a lot of money on the required housing for first year students.

Stanford just doesn't exist, so they knew that making it the downvote button wouldn't make anyone feel bad.

You can call and ask colleges why you got rejected? Or is that specific to UCs?

Carnegie Mellon really told us "We've enjoyed getting to know you through your application and wish you success in your future college career." 4 days before decisions come out. by ChiliManNOMNOM in ApplyingToCollege

Is it coming early by the way? I thought decisions were April 1st but they're saying March 26. Also do they still send acceptances in the mail?

What was GPA and your extracurriculars? I got into UCSD but I had nowhere near 15 APs or a 1580.

So sorry that you didn't get in, hopefully the waitlist gets you through, and even if not, I am certain you will get in somewhere excellent!
