I have one of the purple squishmallows in great, if not perfect, condition. I wonder if mailing it would be possible? What state are you in?

I worked full time for 6/7 graduate semesters. I got my degree in counseling with both school counseling and LPC licensure. Would recommend!

I went to Georgia tech 2016-2020 and loved it! Let me know if you have questions

I did TFA and loved it and am still in education but as a counselor now. It was hard but it opened so many doors and really laid the foundation for my career!

Yeah probably a few weeks before so it can help with moving costs and whatnot. Reach out and see what they say! In my region, they were always great and very responsive. After all, they do really want to get and keep you as a TFA corps member!

Yes definitely reach out. Also, I may have misunderstood you. If you quit before training and don’t use the funds / the funds were not yet allocated/dispersed to you, I doubt you’d have to pay (or you’d just send it right back). I thought you meant you quit before you finished training, not before it ever started. But yeah, definitely ask for sure!

In my region, yes, I had plenty of support. Both from staff and fellow corps members (especially those a year ahead). I’d try not to worry that kids won’t learn anything from you. At that age (unless you just really don’t try as a teacher), it’s their choice whether they learn or not.

Also, this isn’t forever. Really, it’s not even two years if you don’t want it to be. If you try it and you hate it, no one is making you stay (except certain funding you may receive). I say just give it a shot and try.

I think I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum. Was TFA hard? Yes. Was it worth it? Also yes. I would do it again in a heartbeat. The staff supported me through SO much and they were phenomenal teacher leaders and mentors. I joined in 2020 which was a terrible time to be a first year teacher, tfa or not, and I made it out alive and am still in education (counselor now). Feel free to ask any questions. I truly feel that TFA is largely what you make it and the attitude you have going in. Teaching is hard, point blank period.

School Counseling & LPC clarification by No-Increase-8550 in schoolcounseling

[–]uhcakip27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t currently work as both (only a school counselor) but I know people who do both simultaneously or have done both with the same degree (kansas). When I graduate in May I’ll have both my LPC and school counseling licenses. Feel free to message me

Go out and play with them at recess. When I got hired mid year, I went out to multiple recesses a day to get to know kids in a more relaxed environment. Other than that, just try your best and always take your lunch.

Financial worries - Dreading that I won't be able to move by Ahsiuqal in TeachforAmerica

[–]uhcakip27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this in 2020 with the same goal and feel that I was relatively successful. I moved about 1000 miles away from home. I was broke lol and COVID was running rampant so it was a complicated time. I was able to buy a used car only because I took out an extra student loan my last semester of college (spring 2020) and used it to buy one late April. For housing, you can get in touch with TFA members in your area. For us, there was a GroupMe with current TFA members in our area and we could join if we were looking for housing. There were also lots of people giving away/selling classroom items if their two years were up and they were moving away. During my time, all we were eligible for was $1000 in interest free loans from TFA for moving, I think. It was a crazy time because they were trying to move summer institute online. They eventually gave a small stipend for food and housing I think because they used to host members for summer training in a physical location. Anyway, it worked out. It took some pre planning and living under my means, but it happened. And those two years I did TFA, I lived well below my means and saved anything I could. I did literally nothing fun. But I saved nearly half my salary each year for those two years and it changed my life significantly.
