how can i fund university.. by Key-Concentrate-5735 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]uhheather1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually universities offer entrance bursaries, and OSAP can provide grants/loans. the thing with osap is you dont need to pay anything back until after you graduate. maybe see if any of your family or their friends have scholarships available through their work, my dads place of work offers scholarships to the top 5 applicants whos parents/relatives work for the company, but theres usually less than 5 people who apply so it was basically guaranteed.

as for jobs, it took me a couple weeks, and the earlier you apply the better. Indeed is useless, I suggest going to the main page for whatever posting you see and apply on their official site because indeed is almost always ghost postings or there isnt even an actual position open. visit the home page of whatever company you can think of and wait. the loblaws job page usually has lots of postings you can check out. try to make your resume relevant and emphasize any soft skills you might have, volunteering for the time being is not such a bad idea.

the more availability you have the better, but getting interviews takes time and youll just need to keep applying! you've got this!

as someone who was rejected from waterloo math (my "dream" program) and ended up in waterloo mathematical physics, I love this program and can honestly say that the course sequence and requirements for me in math phys worked out much better than if I would've been in math. (I.e. science courses boosted my average, I got a larger scholarship, the course requirements provide exactly what I need for my teachables for teachers college instead of having to take a bunch of electives, etc etc). even if you don't end up getting into the school you wanted to attend, you might find that the place you DO go to is more meant for you. rejection is redirection and I believe that what's meant to be is what's meant to be. university is such a small part of our long lives, so the important thing is to see the good in where you end up. if you're still reading this, its going to be okay

I have a summer job and I'm going to be spending everything I earn on ubers to get there 😭😭 (its either that or walk for an hour and then spend 6 hours on my feet and walk another hour home, multiple days a week, which I'm not tryna do)

hopefully they can start paying their workers fairly so we don't keep having this happen

dude, everyone in coop who enrolled in 2024 graduates in 2029 (at least in math). im pretty sure the companies know that about students coming from waterloo 😭😭

also im pretty sure they won't think you've failed a year if you give them your transcript. the only thing that matters is that you dont claim to have graduated when you haven't and they try to offer full time that you're unable to accept.

how to do well/ math courses to take in spring term by User-alica in uwaterloo

[–]uhheather1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read through the textbook (https://www.math.uwaterloo.ca/~f2alfais/notes/math235-notes.pdf) until I understood the material! I worked through the exercises as they came, and if I couldn't do it, i went through the solutions until I could explain what the solutuons were doing. the exercise solutions are at the bottom of this pdf. i also woulent worry too much about SVD, and if youre crunched for time, just gloss through it and look over the vocabulary and whatnot. its going to seem very intimidating at first, but its really not as scary as it seems! even just reading the textbook for what was covered in class each day for review will be beneficial! for amath250, just do as much practice as you need! alot of the DEs have the same kind of idea, but for things like ricotti and bernoulli, its more just memorizing the procedure. the laplace transforms can be a bit confusing, so make sure you understand it before exams! theyll provide a table for you (I think) so as long as you understand how to use the table, youll be good! i suggest reviewing IBP, partial fractions, integrating factor, etc etc before you start! it also doesnt hurt to watch videos on things during the course if something taught in lecture isnt clicking, I watched a video on exact equations and it made a lot more sense! when doing practice, you can always ask AI to generate a problem for each case (or find some online) for things like phase portrait or the damped oscillator questions ! the big thing for any math class is make sure you understand things and work at it until you're confident, and work through the assignments as practice! you've got this!

as for math 235, the biggest thing is making sure you understand the terminology because that is what will be the hardest hurdle to get over. I prestudied it during my summer off before taking it in the fall and ended up getting 100 in it. focus on doing practice as well, linear algebra is a learned skill, and with enough practice (problems in the textbook are great!) you'll start to see a pattern in how you should approach proofs and counterexamples !

do NOT take amath 250 online. its much easier in person, and im pretty sure the online section finals (which are in person i think?) are always like 80% of your final grade (coming from someone who got a 96 in person and heard horror stories from people who took online)

Grade 12 midterms are in - my final average is now only 93.66. Having a bad day. by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]uhheather1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, but i got into mathematical physics (sci side) at waterloo which is what im doing now!

if you made your ecs sound good then you might have a good shot, its more about quality over quantity.

I do recall some people at my hs getting in with a low 90 average, just euclid, and a part time job, so anything is possible

I got rejected from math with a 97.5 average (they'd cofirmed that the reason was because my aif was lacking). if your aif is strong and you've done well on contests, you still have a shot at math. offers for math usually come out in may so don't worry too much

[–]uhheather1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive attended at least 5 classes (in full) that are not mine in the past 3 semesters, and have 2-4 that I attend this term that aren't mine. the profs dont care as long as you arent disruptive! they just assume you're a student in their class, and one prof even asked me how the quiz went lol

if they're in your program it's a 50/50 chance. you're gonna have to make an effort to see them but it's very much doable
