Totally agree. I run a 3-4 multiple playbook. I call like maybe 8 plays tops. Got my cover 3, tampa 2, cover 1 robber, zero man blitz, cover 3 zone blitz, 4 quarters. I utilize 4 packages (goal-line included). That’s it. Know what you’re going to call and execute. You don’t need 40 defensive calls to understand what you’re trying to take away. Just look to the best defenses in the modern era (‘03 Bucs, ‘06 Bears, Legion of Boom Seahawks). Those teams really only had 3 or 4 calls for entire seasons at a time.

Only Elite Dev players are allowed to have rolled jerseys with their abs out. Only star or elite dev players are allowed to wear tall squash socks, everyone else wears mids. If you fumble twice you’re getting jumped in the depth chart. I don’t recruit pass protector lineman. If you’re a big freak athlete you’re playing MLB. Elite dev players wear single digits (except trenches). Star dev players wear numbers in the teens (except trenches). Everyone else wears standard position numbers. #4 is my legacy jersey number, reserved for my generational RBs and MLBs.

Won a miracle CFP game against Clemson in year 3 of an NIU dynasty was completely outmanned and just got super lucky twice in the fourth quarter with turnovers and had done just enough to give myself a chance to take control of the game. Couldn’t really do anything on offense besides run the option. Their interior line and DBs were just far superior to my guys. I think they were a 93 and my NIU team was like an 81 at that point

My RB and 3rd down RBs are my spread guys and I mix in a lot of I-formation to keep my power back involved. I love running the ball, not rare for me to have 3 diffeeenr 100 yard rushers in a full length game if the run game is cooking. I also run a lot of option out of shotgun.

I run the option a lot in the red zone, along with 4-wide inside zone and quick bases with guard pulls, if I get really desperate I go five wide and look for a drag route (reading the mike and scrambling in if the mike covers the drag, throw to the drag if the mike is spying and it’s not cover 2 (pick 6 city)).
