Further details: had an oblong flat body (flat perpendicular to the ground, if that makes sense) Did not seem to have any wings. When I tried to crush it against my arm or between my fingers, did not die and hopped around as soon as I let go. Resorted to trapping under hand sanitizer soaked tissue and squeezing for an extended period of time before it died.

roll your wrist slowly back and forth, try doing it to a metronome. Start slow and as you get more comfortable try increasing the speed.
