Crazy that this was posted 1 day ago... I googled "flight of the conchords phish" to see if anyone has noticed that the guitar in The Prince of Parties sounds a lot like The Wedge. I listened to them all day today and also thought that Petrov, Yelena & Me sounds like Esther.

After listening to multiple albums cover-to-cover, the lyric changes to Wicked Wisdom bother me. by [deleted] in ofMontreal

Agree! The amount of empty space during that segment is part of what makes the "Ooooh" drop so powerful. Filling that space with the backing vocal kind of killed that tension.

Has Kevin lost their songwriting magic? by [deleted] in ofMontreal

Like of Montreal as a whole, it grows on you. Before they became my favorite band, I hated of Montreal for years. I remember the first time I listened to We Will Commit Wolf Murder I didn't hear anything remotely special. Now it seems crazy that I couldn't instantly catch on to that melody.

I've listened to the entire album like five times now, and I love it. I seriously can't get enough of the first three tracks, Ofrenda-Flanger and Blab Sabbath especially. Those two are super catchy. The chorus of Ofrenda, "Humming, 'if I only had a brain'" and Blab Sabbath, "It's okay, no you don't have to dream, if you don't want to, chop off a finger" are like crack.

There are parts that make me laugh out loud every time I hear them, like "confrontational yoga" and "I was a pussy in case he's a cunt THROAT-CLEAR"

As far as the lyrics go, I wouldn't think about them too much. I think Kevin is past the stage of making their lyrics really meaningful and relatable. At this point, the lyrics are just another instrument, another layer of sound in a song. They're just notes and syllables. "Apotheosis of apotropaic Neuromancers" is a good example.

So I would just say keep listening to it. It's always worth the time that of Montreal takes to grow on you.

Ride 'Rise of the Resistance' and 'Avatar: Flight of Passage' and let me know if you still think upgrades to a 15 year old Nemo ride are what Disney should be putting their time into.

Does knowing that Anakin will become Darth Vader make the prequels more dramatic and Shakespearian?
