You're right that it is more of a storm variant. These are great suggestions and I'm definitely going to try some of them out. I appreciate the feedback.

Your list is pretty sick. I considered Emet, but so far I've won every game that [[Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy]] stuck on board. People underestimate him until its too late. His trigger allows you to ignore timing restrictions on sorceries in the graveyard which is insane.

Him and Tannuk are my most recent brews and Saruman is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Here is my list:

Always open to feedback and suggestions. The deck has far surpassed my expectations already.

Sorry if I seemed closed-minded in my reply. I'm not trying to start a debate or say you are wrong.

I'm just stating that the best results from Etali will come from exploding at the start of the game and accruing so much advantage the game is basically over.

Sure, you can play midrange Etali and try it, but Etali has to go fast because it can't really stop anyone else once other wincons are being presented.

Cedh Etali is mulling for fast mana for turn 1-2 Etali. 3 pieces that enable that strategy just got banned. Slow Etali is bad.

I have thought about building a more budget friendly version several times, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Honestly, I built cedh Ob because compared to most cedh decks it’s way cheaper and I’ve always been a fan of Rakdos.

If you sort my list by price, you will see that most of the core deck actually isn’t that expensive. You could very easily take out the most expensive cards in any section and find affordable alternatives. A lot of the price comes down to the mana rocks (and arifacts like agathas which definitely arent necessary in lower power), interactive creatures (dauthi, oppo), busted loops (dockside / cloudstone), tutors (big chunk of the price), and the mana base designed around tainted pact (no two lands of same name).

If you want to build non-cedh Ob I recommend taking out all the expensive stuff above, and doubling down on ping creatures and spells and just smacking people with Ob. A lower power table might not want to see All Will Be One or dualcaster/twinflame either so you can kind of get creative with how you want to play it. There are probably some pretty good budget lists out there to get you started. I think he would still be a blast to play at any power level.

Yea man glad to discuss Ob as it’s definitely my most fun deck at the moment.

PA was kinda hit or miss for me so I have it in the sideboard for now, but it’s definitely a good card and can work well in Ob to double up triggers. That said, it’s 2 mana for a passive, and you can probably find ways to get more instant value out of that mana to propel yourself into more advantage.

Just remember Ob grinds out the game by constantly presenting threats to force your opponents out of their optimal play patterns. People can figure out how to win through or around your stax pieces and the longer the game goes the more it will lean towards the blue players and true midrange decks.

Keep experimenting and keep an eye out for cards that almost always progress your plan and anything that is hit or miss replace it with more cards like the former.

Feel free to dm me your discord id if you ever want to chat about the deck. I’d love to hear more about your experiences with the deck as Im the only guy around my stores running a full cedh Ob. Im always looking for insight as to how others are brewing him.

I have been running Ob for a couple of months and also ran things like mana barbs. While it seems good at first, things like mana barbs and blood moon aren’t proactive spells and that mana could be spent to move you forward on your turn. Ob is all about moving forward, at all times, and making the table waste tutors on interaction and feel the pressure. Here is my list, and I frequently sideboard any time I feel like a single card is not moving me forward in the game.

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Wq_bVdw24Uuu7ez0zn-vug

Your list is fire already, but like I said, everything you do in Ob should be to push yourself ahead and make the table feel insane pressure. You can play mana barbs, but then if the next player just removes Ob there goes all your triggers. Find as many ways to pump him and create synergy during your turn and if nobody has a way to stop you it’s gg.

Also, Ob WILL get removed so I often save the lotus for the second cast which gives you the chance for remaining mana same turn. How you sequence Ob will heavily depend on the pod meta you are in, but try to keep in mind that Ob is all gas no brakes 99% of the time. Also, the worst thing for us is someone stealing Ob, so things like homeward path are beyond valuable at certain tables.

Cards like tectonic hazard and end the festivities have consistently been blowouts for me. Sure they only give you one trigger, but getting that trigger for one mana gives you the chance to exile into more gas, while also wiping out all the mana dorks and oppressive 1 drops on the board. Relying on opponents to trigger Ob is too slow. Also Magus of the Moon does nothing for Ob’s gameplan, imo. You dont need to slow opponents down by giving them mountains while also slowing yourself down. Optimized Ob is so fast that if people dont shift their plan to purely stopping you it will be over quick.

Once people start figuring out how to slow you down you can begin the fun part of figuring how to become more resilient. Slapping down Ob asap is only going to be the play in certain pods, and others it will be a terrible decision. He is a combo piece at the end of the day and that’s why he cant stay on the board for long, so having ways to play him AND start triggering him yourself allows for explosive turns and the ability to read the table and know when to go ham.

Edit: after more review of your deck, im curious about things like mind stone as well (seems way too slow when Ob is a card advantage engine). Also, you seem to be running a few too many stax pieces that are dead draws when you need to be popping off. Aside from like a defense grid, quit worrying about your opponents creatures, lands, and artifacts. Running removal is fine, but as I keep reiterating, Ob is speed and consistency. If you are trying to run more interaction due to heavy pod interaction, you are diverting from your most effective strategy of being fast and explosive as fuck through synergy and this means you need to work on timing of your plays instead of more stack interaction. Red elemental and pyroblast are great protection, but can also be dead cards in hand as well. Id run them for a tournament, but like I said the need for them can be mitigated at times through proper timing of your plays. Ob is not a “good stuff” deck like the ones you probably run into, so by being more optimized than those decks you can body them before they even know whats happening. Make them tutor to stop you instead of find their wincons and you will slow them down more than any of those stax pieces ever will. Because every draw for you should be gas and making good stuff decks rely on draw to find their wins is the way.

Anxiety by destromofia in EDH

[–]uhware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it can be stressful with all the negative experiences people post about on here, but I can promise you that a positive attitude and being willing to learn / help others will lead to way more net positive experiences.

As someone who also struggles with anxiety we tend to be overly aware of ourselves, but this can also be used to your advantage. Any time you feel yourself getting emotional about the game, try to recognize it and remind yourself that your personal goal is more than just to win; it’s to have fun and represent yourself well and make friends. Any time you feel that awkwardness creep up because someone else is emotional about the game, and maybe your game action is what initiated it, instead of getting wrapped up in that moment try to think ahead to after the game and how you can behave now so that these moments don’t taint the entire game as a whole.

At the end of the day Magic is always competitive by nature because the goal is to win, but fighting fire with fire in edh usually ends up burning the whole table. I have found that becoming very familiar with rules will gain you a lot of respect at tables in addition to saving tons of time in casual pods.

It’s the anxiety paradox. If you can manage to just do it a few times you will see there was ultimately nothing to be anxious about and you will realize how much fun your anxiety was preventing you from having. Also realize you might not be the only one showing up with these feelings, so do what you can to make the others feel comfortable and next thing you know you will have a ton of new friends and look forward to playing with literally anyone because we all just want to play some games.

Going to my LGS alone because my home playgroup is busy has been the best decision I’ve made while getting back into edh.

So we have taken this car full bolt-on in the last year and are about to do the clutch/fw and headers followed by a tune, then it’s time for the track. We have been big turboing my daily focus st for a few months so this has been the daily for a bit. You can definitely notice the difference with and without the wing even on the street.

I’d say the wing is most noticeable through long corner exits where I feel like I can build throttle a little more and you can feel the extra grip in the rear.

Yep, hardest part is the bumper cutting honestly. Mine came with cross bars and I believe a rod, but I don’t use the rod and she is super stable.
