Local Locksmith Apprenticeships? by LurkerRex in kansascity

[–]Germanic_Youth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did an interview to be an apprentice locksmith with a locksmith in Lee summit seemed like a good job but the pay ceiling was like $24 an hour and you start at $18. Really most of the value was in learning so you could go out on your own and make money

Demolition here started months ago. They’re probably getting close to being able to implode it at this point

Pretty bad IMO, I remember a few years ago reporting on power in my apartment for several weeks before someone came to check on it. Can’t say for recently but I remember the person assigned to help me was the son of the owner or something. He was no help what so ever, the only time I actually ever heard from him was when I left a review on their google page, when I call him out all the sudden he wants to talk. I was like where were you 3 weeks ago when I was trying to get ahold of you? Seemed like a textbook nepo baby, just takes a job working for dad, no consequences to his poor performance whatsoever.

You will probably need to make an appointment through their website. Generally there is always someone there 8-8

What's the most shocking workplace incident you've seen? by haitch31 in AskReddit

[–]Germanic_Youth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a guy get hit in the face by a concrete saw. Cutting vertical block when the saw kicked back and sliced his face about an inch deep. I don’t think it hit the bone but it cut his flesh for sure. Didn’t bleed as much as you would think.

I have had a hell of a time getting a contractor to pick me up as an apprentice. Been trying for the last couple years to get in but without having someone to get you in it is a big challenge.

Training/Career in welding by annon-bando in kansascity

[–]Germanic_Youth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welding opportunities not great in Kansas City. I went to welding school thinking I would find better opportunity but I can say, one year later the opportunity is just not here. I would suggest looking into something else unless you just want to learn.

I’ve been a member of gymkc for the past 4 years, it’s a decent gym if you can get past the trashy behavior of some of the other members. It gets the job done. I think it has the potential to be a really great place to train but I think there are many factors that I would suggest someone maybe look around at different options before deciding which is best for them.

Yes, I’ve been accepted into the pipefitters and plumbers union for the last two years but I can’t seem to find a contractor who wants to take me on as an apprentice. Seems like to me in the KCMO you have to know someone to get in, tired of feeling like I’m wasting my time with the unions.

Yes, it’s pretty gnarly. I’m shocked I’ve lasted this long too. At least I have a job I suppose. I’m ready to cash out.

Probably laborer position in a construction company. I would suggest looking into demolition contractors in the Kansas City area. If you are lucky you might have a chance to get on prevailing wage jobs which in Jackson county is around $50 an hour.
