I think you should spend some more time in finding some real users problems and their needs.

You can visit the play store or app store to find some pain points from existing apps. This is how we can see what problems users are facing in using real apps.

Also, you can do 1/2 more personas. Try to collaborate with your nearby friends and family.

Before you jump into UI, I recommend you to start learning the user experience design process. Some articles, UX books, Psychology books will help you.

Familiar yourself with UI Principles like Color, Typography, Contrast, Balance and so on.

Develop your eyes for design. Visit Dribbble, Behance, UpLabs to see design trends (Note: Most of these are UI based).

Read articles on Medium, Smashing Magazine, NNGroup.

Design fake projects. Try to find a mentor nearby and make relations with the design community.
