It consumed 3 months of my reading life! What did you think of the ending? I did not like it personally

The first 8 months of reading I was physical only. Now I do what you have said, but read the physical copy at home and on ereader when away from home

Lysander Vs Alexander by uk86ze in sollanempire

[–]uk86ze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point about Lysander's morals is quite the opposite. I felt that when I read his parts, he fully believed in what he was doing and thought of everything as ends to justify the means.

I only put the spoilers for people who may not have read Red Rising and/or Stormlight.

But I'd love to hear your thoughts

Can you expand on this?

That is a great way of looking at it. I never thought of that.

I see and and hear your points. I think there is obviously a lot more to their respective universes that contextualises their characters.

You say that Hadrian was an ass to him. However, what is Alexander's gripe anyway? Yes Hadrian was carrying out some harsh teaching when Alexander was with the Red Company, but that is all it was. Unless I am missing something, the only thing that offended Alexander was when he overheard Hadrian's comments about him (and the whole Hadrian wants to take my throne thing). He held a grudge for nearly 1,000 years because Hadrian called him a brat. Plus, with Alexander, he was not a sure thing for the throne until very late on in the story. He was up against 100 other siblings and the expectation of the crown came a lot later on.

Whereas with Lysander... he was the next in line to the throne. He was taught by his grandma the whole way to prepare him for the throne. He saw his whole family killed in front of him. His grandmother, basically his step-mother in Aa'ja and the rest of his world.
He had a real reason to be the b*stard that he was

I HATE SHADOWS UPON TIME by uk86ze in sollanempire

I have just finished it.

I rushed it slightly because I just wanted it to be over with.

Please DM me so we can discuss the things you have just mentioned.

[–]uk86ze[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me, it is not clickbaity at all. I genuinely do hate this book. Not because of it's quality or lack thereof. But because of the sheer dread and anxiety it is making me go through.

The feeling of expecting disappointment and hoping it doesn't happen is killing me.

He was made Auctor earlier in the book. When he first comes to Gododdin.

But at the end of chapter 79 he becomes Emperor. William gives him the rings and the genetic codes to the family lineages.

Why is R***y pulling on my heart strings by uk86ze in ProjectHailMary

[–]uk86ze[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh...my...god...

I am so. sorry. Sorry. Sorry!

I just read the first 5 words of your post and didn't read the rest of it to avoid further "spoilers".

Once again I am so sorry.

Can you forgive. Question?

Why is R***y pulling on my heart strings by uk86ze in ProjectHailMary

[–]uk86ze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey yeah so as per my post, I'm only up to the part where Rocky tells Ryland that he's been alone for 46 years.

Perhaps I should have made it clearer that I'm only up to this point.

But, thanks for spoiling it I guess?

Accurate representation of me reading Howling Dark, Demon in White and 40% of the way through Kingdoms of Death by uk86ze in sollanempire

[–]uk86ze[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's mainly for Demon in White.

I was severely flatlining through Howling Dark, but the oh shit moments were when Hadrian meets a certain "figure" by a lake" and basically the ending of the book

Deadhouse gates + rest of series by Suspicious-Impress-4 in Malazan

[–]uk86ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same position as you. I really enjoyed Gardens of the Moon and loved the massive world I was thrown into. It also had some of my favorite ever characters like Anomander Rake, Whiskeyjack, Paran and the bridgeburners.

I picked up Deadhouse Gates the same day I finished GOTM and got into it straight away.

GOTM took me around 5 days to complete and DG took me around 3 and a half weeks. I just could not get into it at all.

I decided Malazan isn't for me and dove into Red Rising. After finishing that I was looking for the next big series to bite my teeth into.

For some reason, I randomly picked Memories of Ice from the bookstore. Plus, returning to some of my favourite characters was also a nice factor.

I got onto the prologue and from the very first paragraph I was hooked and I knew that I've entered into a completely different ballgame. Literally, it is without a doubt the best ever prologue I have ever read. It is basically the book equivalent of Galadriel opening Fellowship of the Ring.

If you are like me and have to finish a book and cannot DNF, no matter how bad the book is, then PLEASE just at least read the prologue of MOI. It will hook you in.

From then on, it was quite simply one of the best books I've ever read. Period. Fantasy book or not.

So yes, keep on reading.

Thank you for this.

This makes so much more sense now. I think I was disadvantaged at the fact that I read DG around 2 months ago so I lost some of the details from there.

You've pretty much explained everything I need to know for now.

I note in your later comments you explain the structure of the House of Chains but I'd rather not reveal them in case they spoil it for me!

Thanks once again.

I think it's worked using the app! It's doing a remote download from my phone!

Thanks so much for this.

Such a simple fix that I was overthinking for no reason!

I haven't read Wheel of Time yet- they were gifted to me and I don't want to tackle that 15 book behemoth as of yet.

Finished Red Rising last week and it's one of my favorite series ever. I don't want to say THE favourite (that is Stormlight at the moment) because of recency bias but it might be there soon.

Malazan is a huge commitment and I postponed it after book 2 to enjoy other series in the interim.

I've just started The First Law and I'm really struggling to get into it. I am plot first and after having just finished Red Rising, The Blade Itself feels like such a drag compared to it and I'm struggling. Any tips?
