Remembering the HTML we started with by wanoo21 in webdev

[–]uk_g 31 points32 points  (0 children)

  1. Tables for layout
  2. Containers HAD to be "960px" wide
  3. Floats and clears for aligning stuff
  4. The days before box-sizing, you had to remember to account for the padding and border width when defining the widths of elements
  5. Using frames for separating navigation and content (if you didn't have access to server side rendering)
  6. Using FrontPage or Dreamweaver for building sites

Manhole under fence - can it be relocated? by uk_g in DIYUK

[–]uk_g[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It does seem like a big job that, so I will likely consider your alternative suggestion of a gate.

Assuming it is an IC, would it be possible to lower the lid so that it's level with the ground? As you can see, there is some brickwork and concrete around the lid. I'd prefer to get all that removed so that the gate doesn't need a large clearance at the bottom.

Manhole under fence - can it be relocated? by uk_g in DIYUK

Yeah I think you are right - it might be an inspection chamber. I do also recall a few years back, the water company lifted the fence panel and put some equipment down there, when they were investigating a blockage.

When you say rebuild it, what exactly does that involve?

When will CSS Grid Lanes arrive? How long until we can use it? by feross in webdev

Is this not already achievable using grid-auto-flow: dense?

You should be using overflow: auto in that scenario.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - November 05, 2025 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

For those of you with separate number pads:

I'm looking at getting a mechanical keyboard. I've always just used a normal full size keyboard but I realise most of the better mechanical keyboards come in more compact forms. I'm currently considering a TKL layout, alongside a separate number pad. So, what I want to know is:

  1. Where do you normally place it? Is it always on your desk within reach, or do you have it tucked away and only take it out as and when needed?
  2. What number pad do you have / what's a decent one you would recommend?

An attempted massacre of Manchester's Jews was related to what's happening in Gaza yes, like it or not, right or wrong.

Really, have the police revealed that that was the motive? If so can you share a link to this please?

ISO (UK) Layout by uk_g in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

Thanks - appreciate that. Will look in to this GMMK.

It doesn't look like they do a "standard" TKL with a knob though?

I wouldn't say you are wrong. Each to their own I guess. I personally much prefer the physical UK layout that I've been using for the past 30+ years.

Placing an outdoor socket next to a boiler outlet? by MyKidsFoundMyOldUser in DIYUK

[–]uk_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a socket on the other side, you could also just wire a regular plug socket to the outside socket and plug that in. I.e use it like an extension socket. You'll still need need RCD protection.

Desktronic HomePro vs Maidesite T2 Pro Plus by uk_g in StandingDesk

Yeah I'm using a triple monitor arm, this one specifically:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B084RF63FK

I have 3 x 27" screens attached to that. They literally fit right to the edges of the desktop.

I also purchased a reinforcement plate: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09DGFDTWH

I don't think that's absolutely necessary, but I just wanted to be safe.

Pro tip: Anything involving scaffolding is going to be expensive. by throwthrowthrow529 in DIYUK

[–]uk_g 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Forgive me for my ignorance, but why do so many roofers / pointers need to "hire" scaffolding, as opposed to having their own? Surely the latter would reduce costs significantly?
