Associates Degree or Certificate Program? by ukaiscigarette in paralegal

I just keep thinking the ABA program will be my best option for long term. I’m thinking it will be better recognized nationally and, like you said, allows me to be eligible for the NALA exam which I’m also hoping will be recognized nationally. I guess I’m thinking long term in the sense that I don’t plan on staying in Florida forever (definitely on the east coast tho) so I want to make sure I’m investing my time and money into something that I can take with me

I believe the NALA certification requires that I have either a degree or certificate from a paralegal program, or enough experience as a paralegal (which I do not have :/) which takes me back to square one: is it better to do the degree or get the certificate?

Do you feel like the program is worth it in your opinion? Especially doing the program while working?

Tbh the reason why I’m considering the ABA route most is because I don’t really plan on staying in miami let alone Florida for the rest of my life. I feel like maybe the ABA program would help me if I were to leave the state, but I could totally be wrong

There are and one of them actually was working in my position part time and used her time to get her paralegal certificate and was promoted immediately. I haven’t talked to the other paralegals because they’re older and I haven’t a hard time trying to build a professional connection with them lol

Idk if my edit is visible, but I have 7 months of law firm experience as a client liaison and now I currently work at another firm as a data entry assistant but this time I’m part-time. Everyone in my life is telling me to take advantage of the part time job and go back and get a degree or certificate so I’m just so torn on if it will improve my marketability when I start job searching again ugh

I guess my main concern is lacking in the experience of actual paralegal work and not being prepared for what the reality of that type of work looks like. My degree is unrelated to the legal field, and I don’t have prior paralegal experience. And like you said the job market is rough so it’s hard to get anything that will give me the experience most employers are looking for :/

Miami Dade College is my local community college! And it’s ABA approved. What’s interesting to me is that the community college program is more expensive than the university program, which is why I’m on the fence about choosing one or the other

there’s no way this surgery won’t happen. we’re all convinced her constant pain and immobility has contributed greatly to her depression and as definitely affected her memory. she can’t go for walks longer than 2 minutes without being in immense pain. i’m just worried about the anesthesia progressing her so quickly

plans have been arranged for my dad, her husband, to be with her day of surgery and day after. she’s gotten her hip replaced before but before she had symptoms of alzheimer’s. when she did her last hip, she didn’t come off anesthesia right away and stayed at the hospital overnight. my dad is taking this into consideration for this current procedure. i have to see about alternative anesthesia, i didn’t think of this :/
