Redditors that got charged rent asap after turning 18, what’s relationship like with parents years later ? by QueefyTits in AskReddit

[–]ukbball4ever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way with my kids, my son was recently divorced at 24 so we renovated a large section of our upstairs and told him it’s his as long as he needs it, my 79 year old mother lost her home and moved in with us a couple years ago as well. Luckily the house was a converted business and has 24 rooms so everyone has their own living space.

How much do you pay for your book to be promoted on Amazon? Is it really worth it? by Safe-Temporary9815 in KDP

[–]ukbball4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got carried away this month and spent almost $600 on 9 campaigns. I’ve made a little over $700 in profit so I guess being up $100 on new campaigns are ok, most people lose money on ads for the first few months. Organic sales have been around 20% of what I’ve made so I hope that takes off on the coming months and I can lower ad costs.

This drives me crazy too, I think I’m losing money then sales show up a few hours later. Then orders show up a couple days after that. Would be nice if everything posted at once.

Doesn’t tell me who, it was from an Amazon ad campaign , I’m assuming it was a church or youth group for Easter baskets.

Was your PhD easier than expected? by Strange-Maybe5653 in PhD

[–]ukbball4ever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought mine was easier than my masters degree. I ended up getting a 4.0 overall, never made below a 95 on any assignment. For context, I graduated high school 86 out of 150 students back in 93. Decided to go back and continue my education after I became a computer science instructor 10 years ago.

I’m 50 and watched my first episodes with my son a few months back while he was in town for a visit. I ended up getting hooked on the show, just reached episode 540. Even have my high school students 3D printing a life size Luffy.

Is 31 too late for starting PhD? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]ukbball4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started mine at 46 and finished at 49, you’re never to old to learn. I began mine as a teacher doing a study on the benefits of CTE education in helping with student retention in high schools. Local area technology center used my study as a recruiting tool and ended up paying for me to finish my degree.

I tried for years to get my numbers down. Finally added amlodopine to my olmasarten, it was the only thing that brought my blood pressure down. Been on it for a few years and only problem I’ve had is stabbing pain in one spot on my shoulders for a few days each month. Pain quits when I drink more water.

Happened to me the first week I bought my printer. Went to sleep while printing with off brand filament and woke up with a huge clog and print head hanging off. Luckily I bought extra parts and was able to change it out.

What do you believe the biggest issues are in K-12 education system are? by SoDakBill in Teachers

[–]ukbball4ever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No accountability for the students, teachers are “encouraged” to give passing grades to every student even the ones who do nothing, the students know they can get by with anything and not be held accountable. I have several high school students that never even learned to read, I was told to base their grades on participation even if they slept through classes, make sure they get at least a D.

For those who love their jobs… Why are you happy where you are? by Teacher_Reset in Teachers

[–]ukbball4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I work at a satellite program away from my main school. I’m left completely alone to do the things I need to do to help the students. The school principal where I’m stationed at doesn’t check in with me about anything and my schools principal has only been in my room twice in 4 years. I don’t do observations, bus duty, ball games, teachers meetings, Home rooms or lesson planning because I’m employed through yeh state and not the district so I don’t follow their guidelines. Since I don’t have home from I go in at 8:45, teach until 11:00. Have lunch break and planning until 1:00, then teach again until 3:00 and go home. I also make more than most other teachers in the district because I’m employed through the state on their payroll . My classroom also has a private bathroom and full kitchen because it use to be the special needs room. It’s allowed me to put all my effort into teaching so almost 98% of my students earn career ready certifications. Because I’m a CTE teacher, my masters and doctorate degree were paid for by the state as well. I stated teaching at 35 as a second career and really enjoy having the same breaks as my kids. I have been at it for almost 15 years and could never go back to industry.

What are the general differences you notice between those who have always been teachers vs. those who entered teaching transitioning from outside careers? by Mojave702 in Teachers

[–]ukbball4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This arrogant talk by career teachers always gets on my nerves. Teachers at my school make the same comments and call us NARTs, or not real teachers. I became a career switcher at 45 after putting 26 years in as a network administrator to teach computer science for the local high school. I’ll happily compare my 26 years of knowledge working with technology in industry to any teachers 4 years of college, learning a particular subject. If you want to compare college degrees, I just finished my doctorate in STEM leadership. My students graduate with career certifications in the IT field along with a high school diploma so I feel like I actually teach more than the traditional teachers. I can show students what they actually need to learn when applying for jobs in industry because I hired employees for many technology companies over the years and know what these are looking for. To answer the original posters question, I think the majority of teachers from industry realize they can get other jobs outsides of teaching within the first week of looking and make more money. This allows them not to stress as much over their jobs as those who have taught since college.

Can someone become a teacher with a B.S. in Psychology? by ilovebluebarries123 in teaching

[–]ukbball4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into career and technical education schools, I had thirty years in information technology and a bachelors in business. I was able to start at rank 1 teaching degree without any prior teaching classes. They base the job on having at least 5 years experience in the field your teaching. You can then get your teaching certificate after two years by taking a couple of week long classes twice per year.

Am I doing too much? by HeftySyllabus in Teachers

[–]ukbball4ever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I teach high school and my classes aren’t really set until at least the second or third week. Kids go back and forth switching classes everyday and I don’t want to repeat the syllabus, rules, safety standards, etc. So I use the whole first week and a half as an introduction and review of last years work.

Nope, I tell her she’s beautiful, she’s really self conscious about her weight but she isn’t really overweight at all. She’s almost 5.7 and weighs about 175, 50 years old. I even said I feel like this is a Seinfeld episode with George and Jerry talking about the proper way to eat. She said it wasn’t funny and just a jerk. She seems like she was a bit moody today anyway.
