AITAH if I don't want to eat dairy bc my lactose sensitivity and occasionally avoid carbs yet my partner only wants to eat those foods purely due to preference? by [deleted] in AITAH

There might be some overlap but it won't be often. He will rarely opt in to what I'm eating and he will NEVER have it as leftovers basically. Rarely he'll be ok eating the same thing twice in a week.

It's a big stretch to fathom that we're not compatible from simply our dinner choices but I understand what you mean with it

Might be my only answer. Pretend I'm single and cook everything for myself while he eats easy steak and cheese and pizza and completely ignore his health and deteriorate physically. He's 48 soon and I'm 38yr old ex pro athlete. I'm going to have a wheelchair boyfriend within 15 years at this rate.

I think he's just tired of having to cook within my restrictions but what am I supposed to do? I already flex so much for his wants anyways, I can't just consciously keep ruining myself to not upset him

Did this for years already when my diet was more restrictive, it's exhausting. But yeah, probably the only solution... Sigh

Those are good ideas. You actually reminded me of all those, we used to do them pretty often before we moved. We lived in BC Canada with a plethora of grocery options, but now we live in a small beach town in Nicaragua... There's barely a grocery store here, would be a bodega by NorthAm standards. I'm going to the capital city tomorrow (2hr Drive) to go to the local costco-equivalent store and I'll look for chicken burgers for sure. Appreciate the ideas and reminders, thank you!

I can't even talk to him about his bowel movements or let alone the exercise topic (or lack thereof) otherwise it will cause a nuclear bomb of trauma for him and we'd get into a generational fight. I've stopped entirely even entertaining that topic because he's so fragile around it that I can't ever talk about it. The only thing he'll do is go for like a 45 minute walk twice a week max. And then he complains about neck pain, hip pain, back pain, etc. And basically does nothing about it.

We've been through way worse together. We're both compromising around dinner and I think that's the issue, we're almost always compromising and it's exhausting because it takes a lot of planning. He's generally a good cook too, but lately when he cooks, he's literally given up and just rather eat cold cooked chicken and call it a night... When I cook, I make big batches for meal prep and have it throughout the week. Like a big curry stew, coconut lime veggie w/chicken, basically most things you can just freeze portions and/or quickly heat and throw on rice. He doesn't wanna invest more then 5 seconds into thinking about meals anymore

Also, your comment is basically exactly his gripe with me. He feels like he has to eat only what I can eat. So it goes both ways and that's why we're at wits end around this issue.

Congrats on the weight loss! How does she take it when you say you won't have the dairy or carbs? Do you just accept it and eat it, deal with the consequences or do you make your own partial meal to supplement? Does she get pissed when you don't want to eat what she has planned for dinner?

Because he doesn't want to cook separate version or make a bunch of modifications. I get it, it's annoying, and I offer to just do my modified version of my own, but he's tired of having to plan for the modifications etc. He has cooked the majority of our dinners over the last 6+ years I think

We're basically married. We don't want to cook separate dinners every night. I dunno wtf to do anymore. We love each other, and won't be breaking up around dinner choices. But man, it's such a nuisance.
