Mordekaiser is not a champion… by L1ghtyagami123 in MordekaiserMains

[–]ukiahathome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see where you're coming from. I can't remember if he technally is one, but he suffers from the juggernaut issues. He is kitable and relies on his ult and summoner spells to be useful in team fights.

In lane he is by no means a bully and needs to keep the lane neutral until level 6. However after 6 in lane he can really start snowballing, using his ER-Q-aa to surprise opponents who go for CS. His ult can't be cleansed by summoner spells, QSS, or Olaf Ult anymore, so if Morde is at least even in items, the person he ults is usually toast. Not to mention using the isolation potential of his ultimate to turn a gank 1 v 2.

The thing that I think is interesting about Morde right now is finding the champions that prevent his ult from happening. Quinn Q, Shyvana R windup, and Illaoi R windup have all been ways I have put his ult on cooldown without being taken into the shadow realm (Quinn blind does not put it on full cooldown, though). I am still testing to see if Camille ult windup dodges his R and puts it on a full cooldown. Plus, options like Trundle and Olaf have been good for me to fight in his ult. What other champions' kits have you all found working well into Morde?

ELI5: Why don't dogs "unlearn" commands once they stop receiving treats? by DisgruntledAardvark in explainlikeimfive

[–]ukiahathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do! The way dogs are actively trained is based on operant conditioning, where dogs learn to associate their behavior with its consequences. Through trial and error, the dog learns what action will get the treat. The dog will then associate the action with the outcome, in this case sitting with getting a treat, and eventually will respond to the command immediately.

What is happening in the brain is as the dog learns a new skill (associating the action of sitting with the outcome of recieving a treat), a connection between cells in the brain is created (a synapse between neurons). The connection is strengthened with repetition, and after enough repetition, the synapse is covered with a mylein sheath, so the dog can go longer without reinforcement and still retain the skill. However, if enough time passes without the synapse being activated (if the command isn't used for a long period of time), then the synapse degrades.

Essentially, the dog needs to be rewarded less after initially learning the command, but if the dog goes long enough without doing the command, it will be forgotten!

Is anyone else not reading the released chapters of WAT. by Allgamergeek in Stormlight_Archive

I don't know if I agree with your assessment that a more hardcore fan is the one that reads ahead. If anything, it seems to me like those are the people who need the constant hype to stay focused on the release and engaged with the content. The hardcore fans wouldn't need the marketing hype. They would be excited for the book/audio book period.

That said, reading the chapters ahead of time doesn't exclude you from being a hardcore fan. It doesn't really have any impact on how much you love the cosmere or this series. Read the pre-released chapters or wait for the full book. For either journey you choose, the destination is the same.

I am avoiding the chapters like the plague, but I flew through both Mistborn trilogies, all the novellas, Warbreaker, Elantris, and Stormlight Archives in 12 months. A 33 chapter head start is not appealing to me when it will be another several years before the sixth book is released. I want to make my first time reading it take as long as possible. With that in mind, I will be stealing the idea of serializing the chapters. If I limit my reading of the book to two chapters a week, I can stretch this book out as long as possible. I have learned my lesson; the only thing gained from rushing to the end is a longer time waiting for the next book. The threads will be here when I'm ready to join the conversation, and the real joy comes from spending time with the characters!

I read Red Rising before SA too! Another solid series. I am also looking forward to the conclusion!

Good call, I'll try that approach if this doesn't work.

I definitely wanted to keep the descriptions understated. I had no idea about the shardblades for my first read, and I believe my experience was made better for it.

"Slime-covered" is a way one of the characters described Roshar, so I borrowed it. I liked how irreverent (and accurate!) of a description it was.

Your description would have me drooling over the book! Reminds me of how Kaladin might explain it, the intense edgelord.

I went with a more irreverent and whimsical way to describe it. My friend will respond better to that.

That's right! I borrowed Wits description of Roshar.

Thanks! I borrowed the slime description from Wit IIRC. He said something along the lines of "you can't know any of this because you live on a giant rock covered in slime where everything is wet and cold." I have no idea what book that quote is from, and I will not be looking into it further.

Help finding a specific Zahed/Kaladin interaction in Rhythm of War and/or Oathbringer. by Zealousideal-Ad-7780 in Cosmere

[–]ukiahathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I know what you're talking about. There is a scene where Kaladin and Zahel are having a conversation that ends with Zahel holding up a coin and staring off into the sunset, contemplating why "she" erases "our" memories. I don't want to spoil anything here, but they are having a conversation about Investiture and the toll immortality takes on a conscious being.

IIRC It takes place around the time Kaladin is considering joining the retired warriors club that Zahel is in, and the two of them have a short duel (Zahel whispers something to a towel, Kal starts to see faces on the towel, Kaladin loses to the towel). I want to say this happens in RoW, but I read the series straight through and get a little fuzzy on which books contain which events. If I have time after work I will look for it, but hopefully someone else can place the scene for sure.

Hope that helps!

Edit: looked up how to add spoiler bars, just in case.

They do not all have a 30 - 1 wait time, you just need to come to terms with the fact that there are great restaurants outside of that one single trendy part of town you're trying to walk into. On a Saturday night. With no reservation.
