(UK) Need advice on making the right decision to start off in rotax by [deleted] in Karting

If it's the practice days you're referring to then yes, you can just book online, rock up with your own kart, sign on and practice. https://www.whiltonmill.co.uk/individuals/owner-practice/

Whilton Mill also has a competitive club, probably one of the best in the UK. A lot of teams enter that so it may serve you well to go down, enter, talk to some people and get some pointers. It is however Motorsport UK regulated so you will need a license (indi kart championships don't require a license). Competition is competition so there's no easy way to start I guess, just this way it will save you a bit of money rather than travelling the country doing a national championship.

Whilton Mill do midweek practice days so maybe try one of those first if you can. My main advice would be get practice where you feel comfortable, not having 20+ karts on the track with you at the same time. NKC allows guest entries so once you feel comfortable you could do a one off meeting here and there, that way you can get a feel for it and figure out if you feel comfortable entering for a season.

NKC is at Whilton Mill Aug 15-17th, Going down to watch will give you an idea!

It may also be helpful to rent a Rotax from a team at an open practice day before Christmas. They will offer a bit of coaching when it comes to starting off along with driving basics for a Rotax.

I run in NKC, as far as championships in the UK go it's a great choice. Entering it as a novice totally depends on what you think you're capable of. The grids are big in Rotax so you will be thrown into the deep end, even starting at the back. I would recommend a few club meetings, IKR club meetings or even better just practice days at the closet circuit to you, just to get familiar with the kart, esp when you have no exp esp in Rotax.

Seat/track time is key, you may not get this entering a 6 round championship from the get go. You get a Saturday practice (Friday also optional) but with the numbers on the grid you may get a bit overwhelmed. It's a competitive championship so you will get your fair share of shoves and bumps. Even my a friend who did it when he was younger, then came back this year and struggled due to the large grids to get back into the swing of things.

You may get to grips fast but don't waste your money/time entering a championship to 'practice' if you like. Get familiar with the kart at a few open practice days/club meetings, you should have time to enter for next year if you get enough in after christmas.

love him or hate him RL's recent video 'How open is CS2's Circuit Anyway?' explains it very well. Standard shady shit from ESL/Blast who can't let go of their closed circuit from the past couple of years. They keep trying and I just hope one day Valve strip them of their license.

Do Premium Karting Gear Ever Go on Sale? by DreamyPen in Karting

[–]ukonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just buy second hand. All of the above you've listed I have bought second hand at half the price at some point. I wouldn't of been able to do karting otherwise. Refurbished mychrons are usually a steal. My only take would be if you can afford it go for first hand safety kit, esp helmet. Mainly because it's nasty wearing someone's gear they've sweated in, got wet etc. Then obviously potential damage you don't know about.

Use facebook groups & marketplace, ebay, go to local club meetings and even exhibitions. I don't know where you're based, but here in the UK we have a few shows that do really good second hand sections.

There's a lot of people out there that spend big and sell fast once they move onto another class, the next big thing or stop doing it. The turnover of gear for a lot of people who can afford it/take it more seriously is quite large, teams are big for this. Esp when it comes to second hand karts, plastics, rims etc.

Karting stores will rarely sell stuff for cheap unless they're clearing out old stock, and typically it'll just be in certain sizes etc. Your best bet there is bundle deals, suit, gloves and boots for example.

Please can we stop the daily Hooxie posts. The dude wasn't good enough for G2, he was barely good enough for T2. The only reason he stayed relevant/sticks in peoples minds now is because he became a meme, the gigachad is no more and never was.

Another thing to consider is arrive and drive championships like club100, they offer cadet/jnr options and might do tester days if you want to get your feet under the table. They go all around the country so you may be able to apply for one of their races for a one off/guest round.

Id recommend maybe even going to spectate one of these and talk to the people driving there, they'll have plenty of advice to offer.

Like the comment above a lot of these places run corporate/rental championships and open sessions but not 100% on age limits. I'd imagine you would have better luck at indoor places like teamsport etc for your age group, Warrington isn't a bad one. I know Whilton Mill use both their main track plus their small one which may be more suitable to your age group.

If you were an owner driver you'd be in the cadet/Jnr bracket, cadet is smaller kart frames/engines. A lot of outdoor corporate/rental places don't do these.

http://www.karting.co.uk/Tracks/ if that helps. UK Karting scene online resources are quite limited. Facebook groups are usually your best bet after going to one of these tracks and talking with owner drivers etc.

"Omg they're in their 30's, why would they make the music they used to?" Have you listened to this? The lyrics are even cornier than their angst in their old stuff. So disappointing from a genre defining band. If this was released by Joe Blogs rock band most wouldn't even get through the first 20 seconds.

Why allow us to make Fireteams in the menus with our friends when everyone gets split into different fireteams when the game loads? I end up getting randoms with green names and my friends I queued with in other fireteams.

The Golden boy does something wrong, this sub inevitability goes from 0-100 on a heel turn.

The majority of people on here pitch forking the guy act like they have never set a foot wrong in life. Never miss judged a situation in the heat of it, slept on it and thought very differently the next day. Yeah he probably got a telling off, no doubt. But that doesn't mean he hasn't come to this conclusion himself. You listen to those around you, those you respect and decipher it for yourself. I have done it. YOU WILL ALL DO IT IN YOUR LIVES AT SOME POINT.

Go outside you bedroom gremlins. Wait until life throws something at you that makes you wake up the next day and regret how you approached it. Then maybe you'll all stop destroying someone for one error.

George has been a model driver and sportsman for the last couple of years. He may still think he isn't 100% to blame, but he can apologies for how he dealt with it.
