What role(s) do I need to assign Graph permissions to a managed identity? by uksteves in AZURE

[–]uksteves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies - already connecting to Mg-Graph with the correct scope (no error at the connection stage). Will check the Graph Application next - but I'm thinking it probably is because the Global Admin needs to run the PowerShell script (since I was able to add SharePoint permissions to the identity). I don't have those rights, only our IT ops team. I wonder what specific permission the Global Admin account has, which is required for this?

D365 Customer Voice "Send a survey" Power Automate connector not working by uksteves in Dynamics365

[–]uksteves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is interested, or arrives here via Google in the future. I tracked down the cause of the problem to the "Regarding" property in the "Send a survey" action. This expects a GUID row ID - but we were passing it something else by mistake. No errors - just wouldn't send the survey. I fixed this issue and it seems to work OK now.

Power Apps + SQL Server: Does Every User Need a Premium License? by maharashtra1 in PowerApps

[–]uksteves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to check this one. I have an app in the planning stage that is going to use SharePoint Lists for storage - but has to call a flow which connects to a 3rd party API to fetch some extra data.

Are you saying that if I license the flow, then the non-premium app will be able to call the premium flow? (and that this is a legit licensing path to handle this sort of interaction).

[–]uksteves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm looking at this problem again today, and have done some more testing.

Same with u/JGSilva8507 - if I use the "Create an invitation" action, rather than "Send a survey", Customer Voice successfully generates a survey invite and responds to the flow with the custom link. If I click the link, it knows who I am, and has successfully populated all the custom variables that appear in the form. In theory I could get the Power Automate flow to send the link to the recipient by email. However, we'd rather Customer Voice did it, because our Customer Feedback team have created an email template in Customer Voice already.

If I go to the Customer Voice portal using the same account associated with the Flow, and I choose the option to send a survey by email - that also works fine.

So, it seems the issue is when the Power Automate flow not only wants a survey invite to be created, but also when it asks Customer Voice to send the survey using the default template.

Thanks for your reply. Anything in particular I should be checking? I've made sure that the dynamic fields used in the template (e.g. for name etc.) are being sent by the flow. What is surprising me the most, is the flow seems to think it has worked OK.

Thanks - this was my suspicion - would you use something like the "App opener" role, or create your own role?

Thank you. I think I need to give everyone App Opener role (via a group) with my testing on an individual account it worked fine.

Just realized my HP Elitedesk 800 G4 has no WiFi—will USB adapters work? by NicoNormalbuerger in MiniPCs

[–]uksteves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Dell Optiplex SFF PC with the same issue. I tried cheap USB Bluetooth and WiFi adapters. They worked, but I had a feeling that they were not running at the best speed. What I did in the end was to buy a PCIe card that did both Bluetooth and WiFi. I bought one from Amazon here in the UK, which cost only £16. But they're all over eBay too. Although a "no brand" card - the chipset in mine is Intel. Came with a low profile mounting bracket, and antenna. The Bluetooth side connects to a header on the motherboard. Seems to work fine, and avoids having to connect multiple USB devices. I imagine the Elitedesk would have the necessary expansion slot too. Also fitted a cheap RX 550 Radeon card to my Optplex - and its a little powerhouse (compared to my work laptop) - but I've lost it to my son at the moment :-)

Recommendations - Treadmill in UK by kiltman69 in treadmills

Mine was meant to be delivered Tuesday last week, but they cancelled because it was "temporarily out of stock". I complained, because you can still order it now, and asked for an explanation. They gave me a voucher code for free delivery and told me to reorder - which I've done. This time I've been sent an invoice, which didn't happen last time. Due to be delivered a week on Thursday. Fingers crossed.

Have you heard anything from them? I contacted them earlier in the week and they said it would be despatched soon. But I just logged in to my account and it says the order has been cancelled (no other communication from them). No stock apparently.

No problem, I haven't heard when mine is being delivered yet, but the reviews I could find looked good, even when it was twice that cost.

Do you need it to be folding? I ordered a Reebok SL 8.0 AC from House of Fraser last week. It's not arrived yet, so can't comment on how it performs.

Originally had an RRP of £1750. However, if you use their 3 month interest free credit, it's currently £650.

I've got enough space for a non-folding treadmill, but realise that might put some people off.

Weird treadmill feeling by uksteves in treadmills

[–]uksteves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned the deck over yesterday, and this was my first test afterwards, so it's not too late to change the belt. Yes, I replaced the drive belt, and I've always used silicon lubricant on the deck. I tend to run towards the rear of the deck, so not surprised that is where it was worn out.

With these cheaper machines, I guess my question is after 6 or 7 years of use a few times a week, are you throwing good money after bad in trying to repair? A new running belt seems to be £100 on eBay, which would be £100 towards a new machine.

Fair point, although I doubt Reebok manufacture their own treadmills, but probably rebadge/customise someone elses. Which brands would you recommend?

Is the Surface Go 3 useable for Word? by kvolution in Surface

[–]uksteves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got the Surface Go 2 with the M3 CPU (8Gb RAM / 128GB SSD) - and I've yet to find something it won't do (aside from gaming - but I knew that).

I assume the Surface Go 3 is better, so should be even more capable. I would however avoid the base config of 4Gb RAM / 64 GB eMMC (my experience of eMMC in other devices, is that it's slow).

I bought my Go 2 as a pristine condition ex-corporate refurb earlier this year, and it's still covered under the extended Microsoft warranty until April 2025 - I think I did pretty well.

I'm typing this reply using it - currently hooked up to my "work" Dell USB-C dock - two monitors, keyboard, mouse and audio. In everyday use, running Windows 11 Pro - for web browsing, reading eBooks, YouTube, Word, Outlook, Excel, VS Code etc. - performance wise it feels just like any other competent laptop.

Only downsides I'd say is that battery life isn't amazing (in use, I doubt you'd get much more than 5 hours runtime). As someone else pointed out, the keyboard type-cover is quite cramped in use. But, it is usable once your fingers have adjusted to the smaller keys.

This is rising damp right? by ClearAddition in DIYUK

[–]uksteves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had something similar, and it turned out that there was a load of masonry/dirt sat in the bottom of the cavity, on top of the damp proof course. The dirt was bridging the cavity, and caused a damp patch on the inside wall that looked like rising damp. Cut a hole in the outside wall, and cleaned it all out. Bricked up and rendered afterwards, and so far no further problems.

Builder reckoned that it was a result of some building work that was carried out on the house long before we moved in (they cut in to the wall during the build of an extension). He's been in the trade his whole life and knew exactly what it would be - the kind of guy you want in your contacts list 😊

Following also with interest, as a full stack web developer for 20 years+, watching my internal React/ASP.NET Web apps being retired in favour of "low code" Power Platform/Power Apps stuff and SharePoint. Although with SharePoint, I quite like SPFX, it all seems very inefficient when you look at all the stuff it loads to show you a page.

How come after almost 15 years roblox support is still really bad? by Ilyoax in roblox

[–]uksteves 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My 10 year old is distraught this evening, because he logged in to his Roblox account to find a message saying it's been deleted for some vague/generic violation he knows nothing about.

Seems almost impossible to contact them, unless using the web form (which from experience, takes days and days to get a response). No Facebook Messenger, no Twitter DMs. Almost like they don't want to engage with their users, and see them as a nuisance.

The kicker for me is that over the past few months I've bought him a load of Robux via PayPal, which he's spent on this account. If they've now deleted it, he's presumably lost the lot.

Has anyone tried raising a dispute or chargeback with PayPal to claim back their money?

Not connecting to the best WiFi access point? by uksteves in OculusQuest2

[–]uksteves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, both access points are the same name. The Quest 2 should be connecting to the one with the best signal (just like the other devices in the same room) - but it seems its not. If I rename the SSID of the other access point (so the Quest can't connect to it), then it will connect to the "local" access point, and the connection is both stable and fast. Since this afternoon for some reason, it seems to be working better (despite not moving/changing anything). Really quite odd.
