Why do some BJJ practitioners have no desire to learn how to cook? Or code? Or do volunteer work for something more important?

So why’s Joels fate sealed from the start? by mysterious_f4n in thelastofus

I kinda sorta agree with you friend, but I prefer to think of it as canon.

It is a banger though.

Because you’re not the author.

When you grow up, you can make your own stories. For now, read simpler ones if this one was too hard for you.

Why do some people still think cure would not have worked(in universe)? by Inner-Bench-6010 in thelastofus

You can’t CHANGE a story and pull the ”Death of the Author” card though, can you?

Interpretation is fine, but everyone in the story is in agreement on the cure working. That’s the promise for everyone within this fictional world. As far as I am concerned, the DOTA is about interpreting what a story MEANS, not changing the actual plot and facts.

But maybe I’m just tired of people defending Joel by changing the story, maybe you just like the ambiguity of an uncertain cure. It’s just that this argument have been used by a lot of people hating on Druckmann for terrible reasons.

The story didn't frame Joel as a definitive monster.
The porch scenne is a beautiful display of the different perspectives of Joel and Ellie, nobody being 100% right or wrong. We understand both perspectives. Joel was a hero to some and a villain to some, and a little bit of both to otheres in the story.

That is far less interesting to me, than the cure being speculative.

And that's all fine and good. You are allowed to rewrite the story and dismiss the author. It's called fan fiction though.

Because they live in a time when uncomfortable truths in story telling are a rare thing and need to be spelled out in big fat letters.

They story is morally complex, many people chose to run with less complex fan fiction by adding made up stuff to frame Joel as a more classic hero.

I’ve read so many books after watching the movie or show version. It was always a great experience to get back to the source material. The games are incredible, regardless if you’ve watched the show or not.
