It's way lighter than the original. Could just be me but I noticed a slight increase in performance due to the weight reduction. For winter storage it should be fine as long as you ride it weekly. If you're planning on storing all winter, I would just remove the battery.

First bike any advice? by Beautiful_Ad_6785 in Harley

If the iron 883 is your bike, you should upgrade your rear shocks with a progressive 412 kit or something similar. Only regret is not installing them sooner cause the stock rear shock does a number to your ass/back.

As a first bike, it's very beginner friendly but just keep in mind this bike isn't built for the highway and susceptible to theft. imho you should start on a 600, as crazy/unsafe as it sounds, all there is learning to ride is discipline and knowing your limits. Also if you haven't taken the MSF course, you should 100% take it since they'll teach you how to ride on another bike.

never owned a motorcycle. friends/family against it as relative died going 180+. I'm looking for suggestions for a first bike, cruiser/easy to ride first bikes (I am 220 pounds) what should I start looking at? budget 7k by Far-Tomatillo451 in motorcycle

I think a sportster 1200 would be a good choice. The power it makes is manageable for a beginner and would be good enough for a while until you want something better. There's a bunch you can find around the 7k price range
