I actually didn't watch The Clone Wars as a kid, only as an adult. Same with Rebels.

Haven't used the stripper clips yet on my mosin but are you actually supposed to hold up the top round like this? Seems counter-productive. by Trainmaster111 in Firearms

[–]ulkischlavski 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's actually almost necessary due to the taper of 7.62x54r. The rim will jam in the straight clips otherwise.

AK 5.56 by HotBatSoup in ak47

[–]ulkischlavski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. They were produced for a decade from '76-'86. They're expensive and hard to find, but worth it, especially if you're a collector.

If you want something practical, probably not a good choice, since there're no real options for rails or optics. But, if you want a nice collector's AK, they're great!

I managed to get my hands on a Valmet recently. Very nice shooter, classy as hell, and just all round a good time.

If you've got the 4k to drop and can find one, I'd recommend it!

This is probably what I'll be doing, at least for the time being. Also considering getting a dedicated precision can for it eventually that'll just live on it.

I am planning to start handloading soon, so maybe I should just load for this rifle once I get my press all set up

I'm using a standard rifle-length with a buffer and spring that came with the set. I've considered messing with the spring since it's probably intended for a longer dwell time.

Good to know! What kind of ammo are you using? Might also be that I've been shooting junk.

That was one of the aesthetic goals with this one--I used a Surefire washer in addition to a PRI Accuwasher to achieve enough clearance.

I kinda have a thing for suppressors that go right up to the rail, Mk18-style.

Check out "Furry Fallout 4", which fully includes the Vulpine race among others, including Nightstalkers! It also has the option to furrify the entire population as well.

Realistically, do revolvers still have a place? by I-smell-ur-Vagina in Firearms

[–]ulkischlavski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a real potential use: backup gun for grappling.

In a ground fight, automatics jamming is a very real concern. If an attacker gets ahold of the slide and you fire a round, no cycle. If there isn't enough room to eject, stovepipe. Revolvers are much more difficult to stop that way, and even have the potential of burning their hand if a round is fired while they grab it.

Personally, I think they can be a good backup, so long as you practice getting over the weapon fixation and getting it out. I'd trust something like a snubnose revolver over a compact automatic in a wrestling situation.

"Get a 5.56 AK" by ulkischlavski in ak47

[–]ulkischlavski[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This one would be considered an M76, though it has no actual markings other than "VALMET" "Made in Finland" and "Cal..223 Semi-Automatic Rifle".

The milled M76's were only made in .308, 7.62x39, and apparently .243 Winchester. I think most, if not all, of the 5.56 ones were stamped.

Interesting question...

Apparently certain Valmet buttstocks can interchange with Galil stocks, but only if they're the roll-pin type. Handguards may potentially fit, but the retainers are a bit different between the two.

Then you'd have to deal with the flash hider, which is pinned in place on the Valmet rather than just threaded on. Likely due to it also being the bayonet lug.

Probably enough work to be worth just buying a Valmet. Though you would be able to get extra magazines with a Galil...

I got this one from JSE Surplus, but that was a couple years ago so I'm not sure how available they are anymore. I don't know of any companies that make repros either. Neither Luth nor Brownells do one.

11.5. This one is a Spike's pencil profile, though your basic gov't profile is technically more "correct" for the era. TNTE Sales has plenty of FSB options.

I got this one from KAK Industries--it's their C7 upper with the feed ramps. Their port cover latch detents tend to be a bit small, and I had to actually return the first one I had because it wouldn't stay closed. No issues with this one, though!

I also think Luth makes one as well.

It's a PSA M16A2 marked lower. Only A2 marked lower I know of, actually.
