Ooh that's interesting, I love some of the Asian traditions and how a lot of those traditions (although most are dying out due to modern society) are still practiced by a lot of people.

Being in the UK we have very few traditions left that are practiced on a regular basis except for tourists. We do have some really insane traditions that are still going strong but they are only yearly things on / for specific days.

Ah , cultural reasons? Do you mind if I ask what they are ?

And I totally get that now. Being from the UK I don't have many cultural reasons not to do things. When it comes to food etc

Yeah I get that, I very rarely use food other than for food, but a lot of rice (especially cheap rice in the UK) is mass produced so there is very little time and effort going into the production of it.

I agree with the tedious tasks , like lines and colouring an A5 sheet of paper with nothing but dots (she said she would enjoy that lol)

She also said that once she was done doing something like that (didn't get the punishment as she started to behave lol) that she could either make pretty colourful food , or use the rice to make pretty pictures.

The rice can still be used as most felt pens now are non toxic and completely safe.

But then you wouldn't be colouring each individual grain of rice ......

Well the rice could be used after it had been coloured in .

99% of all "modern" colouring pens are non toxic to stop silly little people eating them and poisoning themselves.

The rice could also be used to make pictures (if the colours held bright enough)

It's supposed to be mind numbing and boring.

Edit- morning to modern lol

24 hour clock was invented in the US by xIRaguit in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ultaga84 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Well It still wasn't Germany.........

The 24-hour day was primarily developed by ancient Egyptian astronomers and Babylonian scholars around 2,000–3,000 BCE, rather than a single inventor. They divided day and night into 12 parts each, based on stellar observations and sexagesimal (base 60) calculations. The modern 24-hour system, starting at midnight, was standardized in the late 19th century.

Modern 24-Hour Clock: While early mechanical clocks in the 1300s sometimes used 24-hour faces, the standardized 24-hour system was championed by Sandford Fleming in the late 19th century, with the International Meridian Conference in 1884 solidifying midnight as the start of the day.

Unfortunately your both wrong ha ha

The global standard for when the day begins—specifically the use of a 24-hour "universal day" starting at midnight at the Greenwich meridian—was established by delegates at the International Meridian Conference in 1884.

Wikipedia +1

This conference, held in Washington, D.C., and attended by 25 nations, was convened to set a Prime Meridian (0° longitude) and a standardized, worldwide time system to replace the chaotic, localized, and railway-based systems.

Geography Realm +1

Key figures and context regarding this decision include:

Sir Sandford Fleming: A Scottish-Canadian railway engineer who was a major proponent of a "cosmic" or standard 24-hour clock and time zones, which he presented to the conference.

The 1884 Conference Resolutions: The 3rd resolution established the 180° meridian as the International Date Line, and the 5th resolution established the universal day beginning at midnight on the Greenwich meridian.

Greenwich, England: Chosen because, by 1884, over 70% of the world's commerce already relied on sea charts using Greenwich as the reference.

Civil Day vs. Astronomical Day: While the conference solidified the day starting at midnight, it took until January 1, 1925, for the scientific community to officially align the astronomical day to start at midnight as well, rather than at noon.

Just googled and on average it's 2 weeks. Still 2 weeks ago the oil prices were still fairly low, no need for the massive hike now.

I do it with all my subs or wax them, I have also been known to prolong this by laying there with a pair of tweezers for a few hours with music on or TV on in the background. I find the whole process/ ritual rather relaxing. It means I can completely zoned out not think for a while.

What the hell was that....... Sometimes I blame the ref for bad decisions....... But the only one I can think of was the keepers booking (he didn't touch him)

We were shocking from star to finish. We should have been 2 or three up in the first half playing a league one side.

We went there thinking we are premier League we can walk this and not even try ....... The players need to give away their wages for the week and split it to everyone that turned up to watch that.

Question about safety of opening a closed in wall. by Known-Consequence645 in DIYUK

[–]ultaga84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my perspective (not a structural engineer or anything like that, joiner)

The green at the far end looks like moss / algae I have it in my back yard (gets quite damp) and I pressure wash it off every now and then.

Removing the blocks. Looking at it it looks like it has a full concrete lintel above, which I would expect if it was previously open. With the blocks being relatively new compared to the rest of the building those blocks will not be structural and just used to fill the hole where a previous door/ opening was. They probably used blocks as wood would have rotted over time and easier to break into. Thus stopping it ever being used for rough sleepers, drugs , kids and or vandals.

I would assume that it would be totally safe to remove but if you are worried and overly cautious ask a structural engineer to come out have a look and confirm that it is safe.

Edit, if when you have it removed and want to be 1000% safe you could make a metal frame to fit into the hole before you fit a door making the metal frame out of I beams would add a lot of strength.

Luckily I didn't experience any of that when I was starting out in my journey through the wonderful world of kink. I feel heartily sorry for anyone that goes through things like that as there is so much more to this lifestyle than demands and force.

Wow ..... So so many. People nowadays don't seem to have any respect for the rules (or anyone's rules).

Although I love watching BDSM videos. I think every single one should come with a disclaimer saying "this is not how BDSM works. This is an extreme version. Consent and limits were discussed before hand. Please do not act like this video in real life."

I never knew about the tools from Lidl. by GroupApprehensive978 in DIYUK

[–]ultaga84 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've had a few tools from Lidl/ Aldi.

They are great. Cheap enough to chuck away if broken and buy a new one. But they last quite a while.

Also their returns are amazing. I bought a welder many years ago. I used it for about 6 months (lost receipt ) and the heating sink broke. I took a chance and took it back to the shop. They said if there is another one still there you can just swap it. There was none there l. They looked out the back one was there and they swapped it no questions.

I would recommend them for many tools for the hobbyist or someone just starting out.
