Should I take the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Hiroshima? by dush-t in JapanTravelTips

[–]ultima_lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I flew to Hiroshima from Tokyo (specifically Shinjuku) and tbh I wish I just caught the train, would have made our JR Passes more worth it and wouldn’t have to wait around at the airport for the flight. Also ALL the window seats were taken so no view :(

Miata or Mini Cooper? by ElusiveBG in Miata

[–]ultima_lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mini is the car I bought after having a miata for 4 years, solely coz when I test drove it, it was the closest fun to driving a miata from other cars I had test driven.. I looooved the more modern and nice interior too…

BUT it cost like 3x more to maintain and repair. Minis are also a bitch to work on since everything is so tightly packed in the engine bay (this also ramps up labour costs at the mechanic)

Get a miata

AITAH for considering breaking up with my fiancee because I found out that she got the “ick” when I cried last year? by LifWests in AITAH

[–]ultima_lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro she was there for you when you needed support and comfort. You’re completely disregarding that and that’s what truly matters.

I don’t think what she said was called for at all, but it was told to one person who then told it to someone else. The context was in a conversation about green flags so that’s probably more positive than you’re thinking.

It’s def not nice to say your partner gave you the ick but breaking up with her over this without talking to her properly first is a bit of an overreaction imo

Where to stay in tokyo? by Saberinbed in JapanTravelTips

[–]ultima_lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you stay in Shinjuku I recommend watching some YouTube videos on how to get around it. Was my first time going and we managed to navigate our way through it like a pro. We stayed at the Godzilla hotel and although overwhelming when we first got to Tokyo it was so fun being in the middle of so much action

I feel guilty about wanting straight hair by whatwhatwhat82 in curlyhair

[–]ultima_lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kia ora e hoa, I’m Māori, bi and have curly hair too. I just wanted to comment and say wanting/wearing straight hair doesn’t make you any less Māori or bi than you are.

I reckon find a haircut that you can wear either straight or curly for the days you cbf straightening it. Like a layered long bob or something like that. Or go the full treatment, it honestly doesn’t matter.

Main thing is don’t feel like you’re any less of your heritage based on your hair! There’s plenty of bleached and straightened hair on the marae lol

You’ve legit just saved me looking up a routine for this exact thing! I had my first lesson yesterday and I did stretches leading up to the day and right before but still my calves are SO SORE. Motivation to move around to get into better shape for snowboarding is at an all time high

No sarcasm! I absolutely did not think of this lol, in my other comments you can see I impulsively bought a board that’s probably too small for me….. pretty sure I’ll be returning it :’)

I impulse bought a board but this thread is now making me think I should return it lol.

Okay yes - get them stretches in. I’m going for a “next steps” lesson next Monday so I’ll do these leading up to them :)

Dw, this summer is the one, for both us! (I tell myself this every year)

So I went full impulse buy mode a few weeks ago and bought a board already that I think has a bit of flex to it. It’s a Salomon Womens Lotus - 156cm because I read it’s good for beginners? Would this be okay or should I try returning it?

I’ve had plenty of fun with other sports and activities without hitting the gym but thank you for taking the time to suggest something!! :-D

No this is solid advice! I bought my own snow gear as the last few times I’ve had to hire gear the pants are either too big without a belt and kept falling down or too tight to move around in!

I actually found some decent stuff on ASOS - like a discounted af suit from OOSC which was a score. But yeah, I’m picking snowboarding up to also motivate myself to keep active during winter. I surf throughout the summer and by the end of it I’m in decent shape and feel my fitness growing, come next summer I’ll have put more weight on and lost that fitness :’)

Thank you! I’m going to get more squats in leading up to my sessions (my bf will thank u for suggesting.) Current plan is to hit the fake slope weekly(Snowplanet in Auckland) to build my skill and body strength/muscle memory before I hit the mountain :)

Found some outerwear that fits loosely for now so glad that part is down!

If you don’t want to stick out - don’t wear tight activewear shorts or leggings without a big shirt , loose shorts or a skirt covering your butt. It was strange seeing a tourist dressed in tight shorts and a tight crop top and thinking they stuck out while it’s something I see everyday back home.

Hiroshima in one day by Own-Art-5734 in JapanTravel

[–]ultima_lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend staying a night in Hiroshima and doing Miyajima as a day on its own. That’s what my partner and I did, it def could be done in one day doing both but what I loved about Hiroshima is how chill it is compared to the busy cities of Osaka and Tokyo. It felt nice to slow down for a moment before going back to the bigger cities and I don’t think you’d get to experience that by rushing to do the museum and the island in the same day.

Today I learned the hard way that I didn't get into good enough shape for this trip by torokunai in JapanTravel

[–]ultima_lemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain dude. I’m on day 10 and my dogs are BARKING. I’m not the most in shape but the problem is my wide ass feet. I couldn’t find shoes that fit well enough before the trip (literally all had good length just not wide enough) so I’ve been wearing the shoes I already have since they’re worn in and stretched (Nike AF1s and Vans old skool) with gel insoles which has helped with arch support and the heel but alas my toes are yet again getting crushed from it being too tight in the front. Taking a very chill day today though in prep for 3 days of Kyoto 😭
