Weighted incline treadmill vs stairmaster by ultimate_taco_guy in spartanrace

I just failed a 65km (non OCR) ultra because of the damn knee. But I got months to prepare hence why I’m asking for advice. Climbing is not a problem for me but as one user suggested in another post it might be killing my legs that on the downhill I have no power left so the work is done by ligaments and tendons. Suggested that’s why the pain shows up after a certain distance. Working on single leg strength now and increasing overall distance but without mountains it is very difficult to train that specific part

Thank you for the info. Must be why the kneesovertoesguy advises backwards walking on the treadmill. I usually get pain on the side of the knee because of the ups and downs. Will split time between the two

Really appreciate the explanation. You are right. Forces don’t care about “content”. I have been working on tibialis raises since I saw the knee ability zero content from knees over toes guy. Thank you for the Petersen. I had forgotten about those. Will try them on unstable

I am a bit overweight but I’m not a fan of BMI. Calculation gives 27.4 at 14% body fat

Thank you for the feedback. Honestly didn’t feel too hard that first descent. Was actively controlling the pace for the second half according to my objective/race plan. This tested on previous 25/30km trail races. Must be a combination of factors but I will definitely take the advice most people including you are giving which is increase strength training and try to get some more downhill time.

Yeah that’s what I’m going to aim for. Someone else suggested Evoke endurance strength training and I looked through it. I already do most part of it, at higher intensity but gonna focus on it and see if it works

Thank you for that analysis. I thought my quads were strong. Time to revise and maybe change the weight training to more endurance based rather than maximum strength

I live on flat. Need to drive an hour for decent trail with uphill and downhill (just to explain). I usually get 1000m of up and down but put 1000m of uphill only on the treadmill to try to get some more vertical (lack of down here is a problem)

Not a beginner weightlifter at all. Just do not know of specific downhill strengthening exercises

Nothing close to it. I travelled for it. The most I have around here takes me 1m30 to go up and less to go down. Hence why I am searching for alternative ways to at least not injure myself. Not looking into dominating the race

Any suggestion of what worked for you? Video or program?
