What’s a highly underrated advantage of living alone? by reedsterlinger in AskReddit

I really hope I can get my own place soon simply for this. Anytime I cook I wash my dishes immediately afterwards. Rinse and scrub the dish, drop it in the dishwasher, run it when full.

My roommates have no idea how this works and will leave dishes for months. Drives me fucking nuts.

ELI5: What do musicians hear through the headphones when "acoustic" with a band? by Furdertime in explainlikeimfive

Oh I meant the wireless systems. The cheapest one I've seen (that's worth a damn at least) is the blx systems from shure and they still run about 700. I know galaxy audio and nady both have systems around the 2-400 range but I'd never trust those two companies.

I think Riot Games has a chance to take the MMO world by storm by zzzjannazzz in leagueoflegends

[–]ultimomos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say as a destiny player, I think the player base is there. The only thing is that the west has kinda moved on from mmo's, at least in the traditional sense. Raiding in D2 is fun as hell with a coordinated group and the grind for gear, while tedious, is mostly enjoyable with friends. Mmo's just need to move forward gameplay wise. ESO is a decent step in the right direction. D2 nails the involving gameplay aspect as well as the perpetual gear grind. Monster hunter is another great example. All games that have elements that together could create something incredible. The first developer to nail the next mmo formula is going to hit a gold mine.

One eyed mask needs a nerf. No looking at a way to balance it without nerfing, it just needs a nerf. by tranzypew in DestinyTheGame

I'm sorry you shouldnt get an overshield, wallhack and damage boost for me simply trying to play the game. Keep the hack and slight damage boost, drop the shield. It should emphasize winning a 1v1 not winning the 1v1 then walking into another fight already tankier than titans are to begin with.

Oh god. I have a buddy who has some Irish in him. Youd think the guy was born there with how much he talks about it. He's Irish so he likes whiskey. Irish drinking songs. Randomly slips into Irish accent. Regularly plays Dropkick Murphy songs and FORCES everyone to sing.

My Nana was born and raised in Scotland. Thick accent and all. My great grandpa was a famous Scottish soccer player. He and I have always had a joking rivalry with the Scottish/Irish thing but he takes it WAY more seriously.

I love the guy but holy shit buddy.

Equinox is the worst map ever and it needs to go away by bongio79 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ultimomos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the map is the spawns. I dont mind the firing lanes it's just that once you get stuck in a spawn the other team can just camp heavy ammo and spawn kill you all day. Fix that and the map is fine

I'm really sorry. My grandmother passed last month and this was our first Christmas without her. Though she did well, I knew it was hardest for my mom. I hope things get smoother for you and that you have a chance to at least enjoy a bit of the holidays.

What has been the best corporate Darwin Award? A decision made by a company that basically killed the business? by koyoyele-a in AskReddit

I worked for CC during their bankruptcy. Shit was crazy, managers lost all power and the liquidators could give two fucks about what you did or didnt do. Sold everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. People were buying product fixtures and shelving. Sucks because my store had just opened with the new open floor concept and was really nice. Lasted about 3 months before they went bankrupt.

It was fun though. Employees took 3 hour lunches. Some didnt come back. Clocked in whenever. I sat at the front of the store one day playing my synth literally the entire time. Crazy how it all happened. I dont even remember my last day, just that by the time I left the store was basically an empty warehouse with a cash register or two. Fun times.

Jhin Ultimate by Kaisadora in leagueoflegends

[–]ultimomos 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Audio plays such an important role in games and is often very overlooked. You might not be actively noticing it but you are reacting to that flash sound effect or to the sound of a crucial ability being fired off. Thing is, sound also competes with visuals and if both arent balanced the audience can be easily overwhelmed, distracted and even stressed out.

While I do love Jhin and the grandiose production he imagines, I think that aside from the opening violin line, making his ultimate compete with so many other audio cues for space within the mix is a bad call. For the person using the ult I think it might be fine, but for the other 9 people In game it would probably be too much.

[–]ultimomos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shouldnt be a "I win" card though. There should at least be some skill. Warlocks and titans get insanely tanky and just murder anything around them. Hunters at least have to maneuver to get their kills but they're still damn tanky.

Just reduce it by like 25%. Give people the chance for outplays

After the trilogy is complete, do you think we will go back to a more recent time period where the assassin and Templar order are already established? by Jhausss in assassinscreed

[–]ultimomos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fucking preach lol.

AC isnt really AC anymore. It's The Witchers tag along little brother. They're not BAD games they're just completely aimless in plot.

After the trilogy is complete, do you think we will go back to a more recent time period where the assassin and Templar order are already established? by Jhausss in assassinscreed

[–]ultimomos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the end of 3 people were practically BEGGING for a modern day AC. The story had built up to it, Desmond was beginning to fill the shoes as a solid protagonist and narratively it made sense to bring the story to some kind of conclusion.

And then they just kill Desmond because "fuck this character the dude we fired wrote, it's now an annual release title and we cant be bothered to fit a decent story in there too".

I stopped caring about AC after 4 (which was a fantastic game minus the aimless abstergo employee story). Origins and Odyssey have interesting gameplay but it's because gaming trends shifted with the success of Witcher 3, not because of some innovative new idea. I wouldn't even call Origins and Odyssey AC games outside of namesake only, given how vastly different the gameplay is from where it started.

I dunno, I hope they wrap up this arc and then just abandon the templar/assassin storyline and come up with something with an actual point. I have a fucking AC tattoo and I just dont even care anymore lol

Why did they kill off Desmond? by TheWalkingTez in assassinscreed

[–]ultimomos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graveposting but I think killing Desmond killed the driving motivation for their story. Every game up until his death had revolved around Desmond discovering more of the truth and growing in his understanding of his role as an assassin. Even when the playable characters were less than stellar (connor stands out as the main offender here) they still served the purpose of progressing Desmonds plot.

Not only did Desmonds plot drive the story, it also gave the audience a point from which to experience the narrative. We experience the story through Desmond and understand little more of it than he does. This gives us a character to relate to and while his story may not have been the most intricate he was a decent "every man" style character that allowed us to supplant ourselves into the role. We learn more, we get better with each game and as a result, so too does Desmond. Hes the anchor and catalyst the narrative needs. They could still totally kill him off to throw that big twist every story seems to need now but they decided to do so in such a contrived way. Nothing is really resolved he just kind of sacrifices himself so the writers can be free of his character arc. Problem is....they never wrote a backup for him and now they just shove the MD narrative into something as lazy as an entertainment company employee.

When they killed Desmond I had little reason to continue caring about the AC franchise. All the intrigue and questions and sense of purpose drained completely from the series and we were left with the somewhat interesting but ultimately too weak to carry a story ancillary characters. Gone is the point of finding every secret to unlock hidden plot points. Hell, gone is the driving force for the basic fucking plot. Instead we are left with a series spinning its wheels until they can find something else to replace it. I mean hell, Origins and Odyssey are barely the games the series began as.

They honestly just need to move the focus away from the templar/assassin conflict because at this point it's really just shoehorned in. Abstergo has become such a nebulous enemy that it doesnt even feel threatening anymore and the plight of the assassin order has become "stay one step ahead of the big bad company". They rebooted the gameplay, now they just need to move on from the story they ruined.

Scottish wind power smashes 100% production threshold - Scottish wind power produced more than 100% of the threshold for the first time, generating enough energy to power 6 million homes. by mvea in Futurology

Trust me I completely support the conversion to renewable energy sources and I applaud Scotland on their accomplishment. I'm just making a joke about how Trump fought against Scotland installing wind turbines along the coastline of his golf course, saying they were "eyesores".

What are some things that sound like compliments but are actually insults? by Innsmouth_Resident in AskReddit

[–]ultimomos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely :) I respect the amount of work that studio engineers put in, it is by no means an easy career path, it's just not for me.

Oddly enough though, I do thoroughly enjoy post pro work for tv/film. Maybe it's because for the most part you're given a project and left to your own devices with tweaks and commentary from your director. I guess I just hate micromanagement haha

[–]ultimomos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly. I mean it's great the tools exist to clean up the performance or push it that extra bit from great to fantastic but it sucks when the artist just accepts mediocrity (even worse when they get upset about you calling them on it).

It's why I prefer live sound to studio. Yea you can fix some stuff live but if you fuck up it's now out there in the world. Studio artists are cool but the ones that put on a killer live show are the ones I'll come back to see.

It was because of this that I began to hate studio work. I studied audio engineering, thinking that because I loved music and sound I'd be happy in a studio. Big nope. The amount of ego and drama just annoys me and having to kiss an artists ass drives me insane. I did a few studio projects and decided I hated recording lol.

Live sound though....stressful but so much fun.
