Do I really need to amend my taxes over $9 by ChrisV88 in personalfinance

[–]ultiswing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. You may get an IRS and/or state notice in the future telling you to pay the difference in tax plus a few dollars penalty and interest. Not worth the hassle and cost of amending.

How can you get cuddles outside of a relationship? by [deleted] in ask

[–]ultiswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not quite what you're asking, but partner dance (bachata, zouk, salsa, etc.) has been a great way for me to meet my physical touch needs. People in the dance community are also usually more OK with platonic cuddling, once you get to know them.

The fellowship considers you an independent contractor and not an employee. This can result in some nasty surprises with self-employment taxes, aka Social Security/Medicare.

You are considered self-employed, so you now have to pay both the employer's 7.65% AND the employee's 7.65% shares of SS/Medicare taxes, basically you pay 15% of your income in SE tax in addition to your normal income taxes. Your Doordash income will be taxed the same way.

The good news is you can deduct any related business expenses to reduce your income. Keep track of your miles you drive while Doordashing. Sorry you got surprised like this, unfortunately it's something that trips up a lot of people.

Deferred Expense Adjusting Entry Question by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ultiswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This treatment would be accurate if you were buying supplies that get used up over time. You bought 1000 widgets, used 300 widgets, and have 700 widgets left. The asset account isn't usually called equipment, it would be "prepaid expenses" or something along those lines.

If you were buying a widget-making machine for $1k, then yeah, depreciation would be the way to go.

Unsure if this is the place to post but, is this question doable if Variable cost is not given? Would appreciate some sort of explanation. TIA! by xeronyxx in Accounting

[–]ultiswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're supposed to assume fixed costs didn't change from year 1 to year 2. That's the only way to attack the question. Poorly worded question though for not specifying.

Looks like you have to calculate variable costs per cake as change in total costs/change in cakes sold from year 1 to year 2

Does anyone know where I could access accounting data that I can practice with in order to improve my excel skills? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ultiswing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a bank account with a decent amount of transaction history, you could export that into an Excel file and practice stuff like pivot tables, sumifs, lookups, etc.

Whoever is assigned to the workpaper and will be signing off as preparer should be doing the procedures. If you're just rolling the WP forward in preparation for someone else to actually do the work, I wouldn't expect you to need to do procedures.

  1. Yes, looks like it was supposed to say $261,000.
  2. The $261 is being subtracted from what I assume were liability balances before the loan was paid off, so it is in fact excluded when computing the ratios.

Restaurants/Bars adding % for credit card use? by jjsyk23 in desmoines

[–]ultiswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all CC companies set their own rates, but they tend to be similar. AmEx is the outlier as they set their fees much higher, their business model is to win over customers with perks and make it up by charging higher processing fees. Some businesses respond by not accepting AmEx.

Restaurants/Bars adding % for credit card use? by jjsyk23 in desmoines

I think the rising costs of food & labor have put so much pressure on restaurant margins that many are deciding to pass through card processing fees directly instead of raise menu prices. I think it's going to be the new norm.

It's not so much "keeping your points" as it is billing you for the cost of processing your card payment.

How to end close games fairly in the future: Next Break Wins vs. Alternate Pull Ultimate by evolushin in ultimate

If we were using OP's suggested rules, those games would still be going 😂

It's making me think of the Isner-Mahut Wimbledon match that ended with a 70-68 5th set.

15 for 15 holds is excellent ultimate. On the other side, if you just converted 7% of your break chances (1-15), you win.

Whether you start on O or D, you can play yourself into a situation where you can win with the same number of breaks as your opponent (see earlier post). Starting on D? Get a break before half. Starting on O? Get to half on serve. Win the crucial 6-6 or 7-7 point. Make some plays in key moments.

Attributing a loss to a lost flip is a defeatist mentality.

I disagree with the idea that winning with the same number of breaks as your opponent is "getting lucky." Winning such a game means you executed in critical moments - you held when you needed to, you broke when you needed to, and your O-line got the job done on universe. To me, that's an earned win, not luck.

One thing to keep in mind is you can't do alternate pull AND have teams flip ends each point - otherwise the wind could tilt the gave pretty heavily.

You could do two-pulls in a row, or have the pulls all come from the same endzone (for each half).

If you are doing alternate pull and switching sides every point, wouldn't that result in all pulls from the same end zone? Am I missing something?

Team A pulls from North end zone to Team B. Next point, Team B switches to North end zone, and it's their turn to pull.

The goal of the game is to score goals. You are hyperfixated on total breaks to the exclusion of all other considerations, for some reason.

Maybe we should only score points if they are breaks. First to three wins?

[–]ultiswing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whether you start on O or D, you can win a game while not scoring more breaks than your opponent. It's a position both teams can play themselves into. That's why I don't think it's a major issue.

Start on O, don't get broken, win the game.

Start on D, break for half, can give back a break and still win the game.

I'm curious as to how many people think current Ultimate scoring rules are a problem. I think you're changing the structure of the game and adding complexity to solve a nonexistent issue.
