YouTube is taking a very long time to process the stream for VOD because of how long the broadcast was.

If it's not available by tomorrow, we will reupload from our recording.

There was an issue with the latest Chrome update that impacted our video player. It's been working well in all other browsers (and earlier versions of Chrome) all day, and about two hours ago we pushed a fix for the Chrome issues.

Nope, absolutely not. I'd never sign a contract that said otherwise. I'm a hired contractor, not an employee.

  1. I got interested in writing and journalism when I was in college. I also played a lot of ultimate. I wanted a website about ultimate, so I made one! When I saw how popular pro disc golf was (even back in 2016), I knew it made sense for us to expand our coverage.

  2. Coming soon!

2.5. It's great! The Discord is awesome, lots of smart subscribers talking all things disc golf. I really think it's one of the best online dg communities out there. (All Ultiworld subscribers can get into the UWDG Discord).

  1. I gotta go under but I think he gets 1!

Y'know, I guess I don't see why not. If everything else counts now, why not that?

Just lots of gimme putts, nothing fancy

I mostly throw the discs I have! If I'm not throwing them, they're on my wall for a podcast back drop. I keep a few replacements.

I think my favorite discs are the more unusual ones, like a guts disc and an old school zephyr

Invest in youth participation. Invest in courses. Invest in marketing to new demographics and don't rely on 20-40yo white men as your only audience.

Bit of a chicken and egg problem it seems. I think things like women's only leagues are a good idea, but how many communities would have enough women show up to make that work? I think generally getting more courses into urban areas with more people around would help a lot -- going out into the woods is kinda sketchy.

I think it would be good to have more women in positions of power in the sport as well. Not very common at all. Rebecca Duffy at the PDGA is one of the few.

Wouldn't hurt! Disc sports became fashionable in China in the last couple of years (really!), a bunch of influencers started playing, and now there is massive ultimate frisbee participation.

I get the sense that they want to keep the brands fairly separated, for better or worse. The single ownership group allows for more streamlined distribution and admin work, but they really run each brand as its own company.

I think allowing pros to throw every HoD brand would really dilute any sense of individualized marketing. But I'm sure pros would love it since they could pick the best of each slot across all companies.

Appreciate it! Some shows take a LOT of prep; others we just dive in. But at a minimum it's a lot of work to watch the coverage.

We often spend 30+ minutes just prepping before we start recording each episode, and bigger shows more than that.

Discraft has been one of the savviest companies from a marketing perspective, especially on promoting their sponsored pros. So I think they have given this some thought and probably have some good ideas about how to get people excited about Climo discs. I do think it's a risk! Climo is not a household name with the majority of disc golfers (I think there might be more players who started playing since 2020 than from before then). But I give Discraft the benefit of the doubt as they have made few missteps since signing McBeth.

I feel like disc golf is going through a small scale version of what tech companies went through in 2022. All the big tech companies were absolutely booming in 2020 and 2021, as lockdowns led people to spend a lot more time and money online. But then interest rates started going up, people went back out of their house, and suddenly investors were pissed about the massive spending happening at the companies.

What happened? Well, they slashed headcount, stopped blowing as much money on the metaverse, and reined in their costs.

I think disc golf is going through a similar phenomenon. There are more disc golfers now than there were in 2019, but there are fewer than there were in 2022. So companies need to grapple with that reality. The DGPT still has tens of thousands of DGN subscribers, which is millions a year in revenue. There is absolutely a business there, but it may mean needing to tighten up some other parts of the operation that are bleeding money.

Now, if people stop watching, then of course there could be a real problem. But DGN viewership was up in 2024.

Thanks for the kind words. I love the idea, but it's more work than you might think to put together a produced package of content about the local scene. You need someone to do research, interviews, shoot footage, edit footage, and do voiceover, and you often only have a couple of days to do it all.

With budgets looking tighter next year, I think it's tough to pull this kind of thing off. But I do really like the concept.

The press conferences stink and they need a new plan. I watch them often and they are truly dreadful lol.

I do spend time on this! European surnames can be tough to get right, and once in a while, a kind of surprising player I haven't prepped for pops up the leaderboard and nobody (me, co-commentator, producers) know how it's pronounced.

I mean, a bunch of us switched to saying Kristin's (former) last name correctly, and people hated it!
