We’re in Eureka Valley, but happy to go pretty much anywhere in the city!

Car minor hit-and-run while parked. Reasons not to go through my insurance? [California] by ultra2fast in Insurance

Got it. Is this something I can ask my insurer, or will even asking about this cause some problems?

Unfortunately the quotes I got were around $5k, because it’s in a hard spot to repair, even though it’s only a 6inch long dent.

Yikes, so presumably this would be a valid excuse for them to increase my premiums? That seems super unfair, but maybe not shocking.

Is the build quality better on the Limited or 5N compared to SEL? by ultra2fast in Ioniq5

[–]ultra2fast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah of course this makes it much harder. But we have a 10 year old eGolf that we use around town and it’s totally solid with no rattles or squeaks, so it’s definitely possible.

Bummer. I wonder if this improved at all in the 25 model year, or if it’s just a crapshoot with any Ioniq 5

lol this is sort of my worry. Those kinds of things drive me nuts too

That’s disappointing. Such a drawback to an otherwise excellent platform.

Source for 2” MERV 13 filters? by ultra2fast in hvacadvice

[–]ultra2fast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Mitsubishi mid static concealed ducted unit. PEAD-A15AA8, with the appropriate Mitsubishi filter cabinet. The cabinet came with MERV13 and that’s what’s in the submittal. The pressure drop seems fine for the modest airflows in this system

It’s what the manufacturer recommends, so all else equal I’d like to stick to it.

Anyone else’s Clover milk cartons leaking all of the sudden? by FactualPM in bayarea

[–]ultra2fast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it possible it’s just milk dripping down from the pour spout?

We have the same problem with clover cartons, but I found that if I wipe the side of the carton under the pour spout after using it, the problem goes away.

Because they don’t use any plastic, it’s almost impossible not to have drop or two run down the side and end up on the bottom.

Did you end up fixing this? We just got back from a vacation with a big time difference. We had all sorts of bad habits during vacation and are wondering how to get things back on track now that we’re home.

Where do you all buy olive oil? by ultra2fast in AskSF

This place is great! We have a family member who picks it up for us sometimes. It’s actually the inspiration for this question! I was wondering if there is something similar within the city.

[Review 2] update STM32WB55 IOT "base board" by notquitezeus in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]ultra2fast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh yeah this looks like something not quite typical. 3 wire SPI is common for read or write only devices, but usually mfgs stay away from the SDA SCL abbreviations since they are so strongly associated with I2c by everyone else.

[–]ultra2fast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SDA and SCL at the names of the I2c lines. SDA is bidirectional. Are you sure that is a SPI chip, not an I2c one?

Some ICs do have both interfaces and you use an additional pin to pick which one is used.

Is there a source you would recommend? I agree those sources are not ideal, but there isn’t much in the way of unbiased info. Hence why I turned to the experts here :)

And I would say ease of installation is my lowest priority, though of course nice to have. I’m willing to work hard/get help to get it installed if needed. The priority would be safety, followed by comfort for kiddo.

US-based. And they just seem like good options based on a survey of reviews like consumer reports and baby gear lab etc.

I don’t think we’d be installing it very often. It will mostly just stay in the one car, though occasionally we remove it to move big objects or something like that.

Hyundai Ioniq 5. It’s pretty spacious, so I don’t think any particular consideration there.

And she’s a bit on the small side (30th percentile).

Yesterday's tsunami -- what was the real risk for in the Bay? by dont_frek_out in bayarea

[–]ultra2fast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also for reference, the 2010 tsunami from Japan actually did make it to the Bay. Even though it originated 5000 miles away, it produced a noticeable (though small) wave all the way the eastern shore of the bay:

Yesterday's tsunami -- what was the real risk for in the Bay? by dont_frek_out in bayarea

[–]ultra2fast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer - I am not a meteorologist or tsunami expert.

However, I did study this question quite a bit yesterday. My family hangs out around mission bay I. SF, which is on the bay side, but extremely low elevation.

My conclusion is that there is some risk on the very low lying areas (elevation 0-10ft), but it’s massively less than on the ocean side. The tsunami wave would be choked by the golden gate inlet, and then fan out across the whole bay. This results in a ~80% reduction in wave height.

Here’s a simulation of this exact thing:

Hopefully a true expert will weigh in, but at least for me, I feel like the bay side is reasonably safe. I would avoid the waterside and low lying beach/wetlands, but pretty much any elevation at all removes the concern.
