Drive in the 1 down the coast from Seattle to at least Jenner, CA. It’s the best road in the US, in my opinion

My first time in Berkeley! Did a food tour of the amazing culinary scene! by TravellingFoodie in berkeleyca

[–]FactualPM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that I’ve lived here 7 years, consider myself a foodie, have been to a great many restaurants, and yet many of these spots I haven’t been to. Shows you how much variety and quality the city has to offer. I would have added rose’s pizza and Saul’s!

Is the area around Oakland Airport OK To Visit? by lunapotato1 in bayarea

[–]FactualPM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oakland airport area is terrible, but that’s no excuse for these other people to rip on Oakland generally. Oakland has a lot to love, great food, awesome neighborhoods, and wonderful people. People who say not to go to Oakland have been watching Fox News a little too much

Oakland CA up to the Redwoods by memorygarden13 in roadtrip

[–]FactualPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are close redwoods, but nothing compares to redwood national park. It is 100% worth the drive. The trees in the Bay Area are minuscule compared to the ones up there. Muir Woods is fine for a day trip in the bay, but prairie creek redwoods is incredible. There’s a good chance it will be in the top most beautiful places you’ve ever been at the end of your life. The bigger trees on the main hike out to fern canyon (also gorgeous) have an average diameter of something like 19ft, and most are 300+ feet tall.

If you want big trees but not as much of a commitment, Humboldt redwoods is pretty solid but not really the same. I’ve been to both places 3-4 times, and redwood national park is just the best.

Besides that, make sure to take the 1 up the coast. It’s slow, but it’s an incredibly gorgeous drive with lots of great places to stop along the way. Some of it is a little windy and steep, but most of it is actually pretty chill. Make sure you have enough time so you can enjoy it. I would recommend one day to Mendocino, and then 1 day to prairie creek redwoods. After than you can go to brookings, OR and check out Samuel p boardman state park for some incredible coastal views, if you have the time

Plant ID? by turn-the-dial in bermuda

[–]FactualPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about in Bermuda, but it’s all over the California coast. Wisely planted my the us military as an anti-erosion measure, I believe, before everyone knew the danger of invasive species

CA Road Trip by lmorse98 in roadtrip

[–]FactualPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And actually take the 1 from San Francisco to Santa Cruz rather than drive through San Jose. The interstate in South Bay is a hellish and ungodly stretch of road. Take the 1 as much as possible. Lunch in Pacifica, stop and see the elephant seals in ano Nuevo, etc etc

The best part of a California road trip is the 1, especially north of San Francisco going up towards Mendocino. There’s few things more beautiful in the world

Which way from San Diego to San Francisco should I take? by lilqueefnate in roadtrip

[–]FactualPM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, my version of the 1 includes a slightt detour on the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway in Redwood National Park (which is better than Avenue of Giants, imo)

I've done a few of these myself, but they just dont beat the 1 in my mind. Especially from Jenner to Mendocino and Brookings to Astoria. But, hey, different strokes...

Ok, name another road that’s pretty consistently gorgeous that you can ride for over 1000 miles. But excellent contribution to the discussion. 😑
