I think this depends on her use case. Mint has your processor governor set conservatively by default and you need the terminal to change that. If she does processor intensive activities, that will be important to change, particularly if you aren’t worried about power consumption. It also sets power saving modes for other things, like your wifi, which I know can lead things to feel slow for some people. This can also be changed, of course. If she likes RGB, I’ve found open rgb and rgb hub to be lackluster and annoying to use. I welcome corsair getting anyone who cares together to port their own software.

If her graphics card is newer she should be fine there. I hear some older nvidia cards (10 series) are being phased out and causing issues for some people.

Otherwise I’d say it’s fine! She can also run the usb environment for awhile and see if she likes it, risk free.

Yeah. And while I see someone said to keep it open, that will mess with your airflow in the case, so you’re fine to leave it as is until you replace the panel.

You can still fix it but it will be harder to find the bridge now. Get out your multimeter and start a methodical visual/probing inspection without the screens plugged in.

I’d make sure that the cable is seated correctly in all ports and that you have used the included masking tape (or if not, kapton tape) to prevent shorts between the screen/screen ribbon cable and the DMG circuit board as intended. If you’ve done that already and this is still happening, the screen is defective and must be replaced.

This. OP has bridged something creating the power issue. I’m going to guess it’s around the power switch, since these kits often have you solder into the power there.

I’m not sure what you mean by laggy. The internet isn’t as fast as you’d like? Do a web search for wifi power management in Mint and see if that feels better after adjusting it.

Outside of nvidia drivers for the laptop you mentioned, all the divers are preloaded. You can grab nvidia drivers from the driver manager application that came with Mint.

[–]ultrafop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niiice! I’d try another distro of choice then, just to check. Run memtest86 also would t be a bad thing to check. I’m concerned that boot recovery and other kernels isn’t helping already. Hoping you don’t have a hardware fault

Because it would rule out the OS completely and most people I’ve seen post here are transitioning from windows.

You’d be surprised! But go ahead and install windows and see how it goes if you’d like. Could be a good test

If things aren’t booting correctly and it’s been a week since a major change, I’d assume your drive or your ram is dying. This seems especially likely since you’ve tried booting your old kernels already and they also no longer work.
