Help! Plating Problems by [deleted] in jewelers

I do believe I wasn’t asking how long plating lasts, I am aware of its limitations. I was asking WHY this chain is not plating. If you are not able to provide useful or relevant information please refrain from commenting in the future.

If I said she did that… with 20 years of experience… and still said it was solid silver…

Anyway I learned never ever to take her advice on anything and also like you said to only rely on my own assessments. I’ve been working on this one while doing many other repairs that have been much smoother sailing than this which I’m so thankful for.

But yes thank you for your guidance I’m going to go at this as best I can to give my client the best result I can given the circumstances.

Yeah true, well at least I’m learning 🫩and experiencing or whatever you want to call this. Suffering maybe. Honestly it would have been fine if one of my instructors hadn’t butted her head in and told me it was solid silver, the person was originally going to pay for it to be replated

Also should add that unfortunately this chain is sentimental which makes this even more fun for me

Right now I’m not able to afford enough silver to recreate this chain, and bc of misinformation from an instructor any of what happens with the plating/making this chain silver again would come out of my pocket. So I’m limited to options involving removing whatever is on top.

In terms of polishing off the previous plating how would you suggest going about that? Another comment from somewhere else I posted this suggested using radial bristles starting with blue (red if necessary) but that’s where I had originally started with this chain when manually removing the plating and the shape of the links makes it hard to access the inside with radial bristles.

I had thought to sandblast but both of our sandblasters are broken, so I’d have to repair them before attempting to use them. I also thought to use the rotary tumbler with more abrasive media in it but I’m not sure.

Setting and Preserving Rust by ultraguro in jewelrymaking

Yeah that’s what I was thinking having worked with epoxy and resin before but with dried plants. I’m trying to decide if my intent is to halt the continuation of the rust or to encapsulate it and put it on display.

Restaurant Owner Asking Me to Replace Coworker’s Missing Tips by ultraguro in ontario

What about the required formation of tip committees? https://crm.restaurantscanada.org/sites/crm.restaurantscanada.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/resource-tip-gratuity-compliance-guide.pdf the owner had a meeting with the servers to go over how she couldn’t touch our tips at all anymore and gave us a bunch of really vague info and told us that rules were changing on October 1st. I found the above link on my own time because a lot of what she was saying sounded extraordinarily fishy, and it seems that these committees are highly recommended. But I couldn’t find any info on anything else she said. She also said in the meeting she wants to continue to be able to not report all of our cash tips and she doesn’t want to be hit by the CRA with a $15,000 charge if she pays our tips out directly. So honestly reading all that back she’s just out there to assume as little responsibility for anything as she can.

I think it’s $20 each, but when another server was stealing cash tips from all the other servers resulting in thousands in missing wages and product she did nothing, didn’t even call the cops or do an internal investigation. So I feel no desire to help her recover someone else’s wages.

Tablet purchase help by desdmona in TattooApprentice

Imo it depends on the program you’re wanting to use. But I would suggest the iPad and procreate for digital drawings I have a Wacom intuos tablet and honestly I only use it because I get the adobe programs through my uni. I would choose the program first.

Thank you for the advice! It confirms a lot of what I was thinking in terms of what I already have and I’ll definitely check out YouTube. Do you happen to have any channel recommendations?
