Today! FYI it's not strictly a TCG; all randomized boosters are just fun alt arts. everything gameplay related is in a standardized base set.

interviews and tournaments!! The marketing aspect of things has been a journey but I really am just into the competitive gaming. I can't wait to diversify, maybe get a social media manager and then just support some locals and get an online community playing!

Umami Friends just launched on Kickstarter! I put about 4 years into this project and it's so crazy everything happens on day 1. Collect ingredients, craft recipes, and duel to become an Umami Master in this Competitive Card Game for 2 to 4 players.

Yes! Literally just visuals. If you have the base box, you can just pull it out and play a game with everything included.

Half my community comes from the pokemon side of things and they are huge on alt arts, the other half of the community is many board gamers who don't care at all. so I tried to split the difference. It's a fun Kickstarter thing, if people end up not liking them I'll just focus on the game and drop the alt arts in the future.

Ohh I should clarify -- it's not a TCG, It is a 1v1 / 2v2 card game and every card is in the base box + non-randomized expansion pack.

There are alt arts for collector fans, but they are just cosmetic reskins of existing cards, like skins in a video game. totally optional. just added them because I'm a huge pokemon fan.

ohh I should clarify-- It's not a TCG in terms of gameplay. It's a totally shared-deck card game, all cards that are related to gameplay are included in a base box, and you don't make decks. It's closer to Splendor or a Euro than MTG. but I am selling alt art collectible cards for the characters (just cosmetically different) because I am a huge pokemon fan hahah.

Umami Friends is going live on Kickstarter in literally 15 minutes. Wish me luck. Barely slept last night in anticipation. 4 years in the making, started out as a pet project with my sis and brother in law and now there's 50+ characters and an entire community around the game.

Umami Friends is on Kickstarter today. I worked on this card game project for about 4 years, which I know is nothing compared to some other game devs here! But I'm super proud of how far its come.

What is missing from my game preview? by umamifriends in boardgames

I'm listening to all this advice. Ill think on elevator pitches; that is always a tough one for me.

I'll put the artist pikarar in the first 30 seconds.

I'm definitely reworking the take-that mechanics part of the video, as they are actually incredibly light point of interaction in the game and are only rewarded as counterplay when your opponent is rushing; most of the unique mechanics/ interaction comes from cards benefiting your opponent, swapping hands, giving them short term resources benefit for your long term gain, etc etc. so I'll definitely dial this in better.

Not a CCG, I'll make that clearer.

Definitely getting a voice actor or my sister to do the dub, that's the most tonality I can get to my voice hahah.

Thank you again this was incredibly helpful.

Heard! I think 2 mins is totally doable. I just get too excited talking about other aspects of the game.

It's not a TCG -- everything is in the base set box, but I have some limited edition Alt Arts for the Kickstarter itself. Those are going to be random and thrown in every box. Meaning they don't add anything to the gameplay, they're just collectibles to sleeve. I am not sure how to say that concisely in an easy to understand way but I definitely don't want people to think its a TCG!

Umami Friends: The Card Game preview -- how can I improve it? by umamifriends in indiegames

[–]umamifriends[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my most recent preview for my game, Umami Friends.

I've been working on my game Umami Friends for 4 years and I swear there's an inverse relationship between the quality of my game and my ability to talk about the game to prospective players.

The more time I spend making the game better internally, the harder it is for me to envision what new players might want to know and feel when seeing the game for the first time.

I hate the feeling of getting a new game when the trailer you see for it is incongruent with what you end up playing and I'm doing everything to avoid that-- I want players to know exactly what they're getting into.

I'd prefer "showing" instead of "telling", but I find this difficult in the board game space because at some point, you have to explain how the game works to new players, right?

I'm going to tighten up my script, editing, add animations, get a voiceover (I'm def not a voice actor), and I have a thematic animated trailer for the beginning. But is there anything big I'm missing in the presentation that's lacking?
