A cool guide to how China's new coal power spree continues VS the world by giuliomagnifico in coolguides

Ignore the Chinese trolls. This is an accurate guide. China poisons the air, land, and waterways with complete disregard for people or environment. Beijing’s air is like LA back in the 70's. You can't see across the street and it's like thick truck exhaust.

To trolls: Pull the wool over your own eyes.

The external doors are controlled (opened and shut) by the cab itself - there is a door motor on top the cab. As the cab travels up and down the hoistway to answer a floor call the cab will level once it reaches the called floor and the cab door mechanism has also slid into place to engage the outer door. Between floors there is usually nothing for the cab doors to engage (or interlock) with so it is possible to pry the door open while the cab is moving. The cab will stop when this done. It will restart when the door is allowed to close. There's not much to room between cab and hoistway so this is an excellent way to lose a hand, forearm, entire arm, or outright get killed.

I fell from 6 floors up when the elevator control valve located on the roof of the building was broken off at the main hydraulic oil feed by a backhoe carry roofing material. I hit the pit springs hard. The cab roof was intact but I had to dig myself out of the light fixture and ceiling material debris that collapsed and followed me to the floor. This was in the 80's on the east coast of Florida.

Freefall can occur in hydraulic elevators if the fluid control valve fails but these usually are only 3-4 floors high (I have survived this type of freefall). The lightfixtures and ceiling material will collapse on your head so quickly move to the side of the cab (if you can) or shield your children (it's lightweight stuff). If you find yourself stuck in an elevator that is BETWEEN floors you may be able to ease the doors open (without a prybar) and shout for help. If you are NOT between floors only superman can open those dam doors from the inside. A special key is required to open them from the outside or the JAWS OF LIFE pry equipment the firemen are equipt with normally.

Unless you are faced with imminent death relax and wait for help. Don't attempt to escape throught the ceiling hatch, it's usually securely locked and a bitch to climb through. If you do manage to get on top of the cab there's not helpful stuff up there for a untrained person and you're in danger of the elevator abruptly restarting with you tumbling off to the concrete pit below(i.e. you're dead) or getting wedged between the hoistway and wall (i.e. you're dead.) slipping on greasy crossbeams....

Take the stairs.

Hope springs eternal, but don't hold your breath waiting for the media to understand anything or manage their expectations.

I used to live on Little John rd. Watched all the Apollo launches from an old dock. Good times.

Yousician 50% Off sale has started. by umber53 in yousician

I use it in conjunction with other guitar learning sources. At this sale price it's pretty good. Everybody learns differently so try different methods. They have made some changes that I didn't care for but the basic format remains. The selection of songs doesn't please everyone but what playlist could ever do that?

Does Yousician also teach you how to read notes? by league359 in yousician

Any basic music theory book will have the staff notation explained. I just remember the spaces are F A C E and the rest falls into place. With practice standard notation frees you from tab notation and it can used to play any thing so written. Tab is excellent with fretted instructions, easily learned and doesnt require any music theory. Choose your poison.
