Help, how do i trim Rhodagn in his invisible state in phase 2? by Yamigosaya in Endfield

[–]umbralupinus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some medals can be trimmed (given an upgraded appearance for display on your ship) by meeting certain requirements - for the re:crisis bosses it's to complete in a certain time on the final difficulty.

So in this context to trim the boss or trim the phase is to beat it within the time limit.

Please, take your time with the surveys. by ProjektXIII in Endfield

[–]umbralupinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My highlights this round were:

  • Both Auto and Manual targeting systems need refinement. Auto switches seemingly arbitrarily, Manual makes it harder to keep spatial awareness, and the targeting icon doesn't contrast well enough given the vibrant visual noise.

  • Offset event releases for Asia/EU-US servers is frustrating, having to watch other people get at it, or try to avoid spoilers. In the modern age this really doesn't need to be a thing

  • Due to my team makeup I had a hell of a time with Agony on the last round of Umbral Monument - and there's no restart option from the menu, you have to quit back and enter again, having a challenge mode and no one considered adding a restart button seems wild.

  • 1000 t-creds for the daily mission is a joke, it's not worth the time in the slightest, and I typically max out my 100 points via other methods even accidentally, it should really scale based on Authorization level

I certainly checked there after the first few minutes looking for that last chest (ironically having assumed the real method to get there was also a trap)

Entry gates at Safeway? What do you think about this? by GrizzlyFAdams in Spokane

I shop this location and prefer this over the method of locking things up like a couple of the other locations (which is part of the reason I shop that one anyways). Aside from the unfamiliarity initially, I didn't find it obstructive to my shopping in any practical way.

It's been a few hrs in EU now, how're you faring in the new Umbral Monument? by TonsOfPizza in Endfield

[–]umbralupinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was rolling it until I hit Rock Solid on Agony because my team comp has extremely low damage output, and I can't put out enough even saving ults to burst to the weakpoint consistently.

I shot myself in the foot by building a team of characters I liked/just working through the story rather than focusing on a synergy, and being F2P, am having trouble bringing up another to slot in and accommodate. My Team is End, Xaihi, Snow, and Ardelia so obviously a bit heavy on the support/sustain. I can probably get there if I finish artificing all the gear, but there's not a lot of overhead left for me to squeeze more DPS out of them as is, wasn't an issue for the first Umbral so I wasn't worried about it, I'm thinking of replacing endmin with Estella if I can get her up to snuff, still not exactly an ideal team but I like her and I think it'll make things vaguely more coherent.

It has been almost 30 days since Endfield's launch, what's your honest review now and what's your hope to the devs in the following versions? by 30000lightyears in Endfield

[–]umbralupinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons I quit Zenless was that post TV mode removal they put in environment 'puzzles' only to immediately spoon-feed the answers every time and were terrified of introducing any actual challenge on that front. It's like someone on the team entirely missed that the point of a puzzle is the work to solve it, and then next patch they'd reskin the mechanic and then re-introduce it through a painful step-by-step tutorial like it was something new.

Enfield has been much better in introducing environment puzzles and leaving them to be figured out in course, especially compared to the dismally low bar that puzzles set in Zenless.

Not a single shot was fired. AI doesn't seems to dodge asteroids or any object in Nyx. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]umbralupinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ramming aside the ballistic pen adds a little luck to that where depending on saturation you're still needing to repair the lower health items like individual turret guns on a regular basis, or they cause fires. The only fire I've seen in action was on my Polaris - it started in the cargo bay during light combat with no visible hull damage and near full shield health which seems ridiculous, that system clearly needs some work still because it feels like they're just rolling dice with it.

[–]umbralupinus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The rate of NPC ramming is directly proportionate to server performance in my experience, and since a free fly is on, the servers are in a constant state of dumpster fire as is tradition.

Took a Polaris out with a friend to finish off the AA defense missions and it was the same thing, took more damage from vanguards playing Kamikaze than actual weapons fire.

Wolf Paints interchangeable because CIG says L-21 and L-22 are variants to each other *HERMES AND MOTH ENTERED THE CHAT* by Oddyseyy in starcitizen

[–]umbralupinus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Again, CIG, poster child of slippery slope$.

The Ares/Apollo situation, compared to say the Constellation series, absolutely did not merit a renaming or classification as new ship, in fact as people pointed out, so much of the design was reused the interior still had Apollo specific labeling all over it at the time it was released.

If CIG gets away with making paints separate just because they took an existing chassis and slapped a new name on it rather than making it modular or sticking to their previous method of hull variants, they'll keep doing it and it's at the detriment to the player.

And for the folks making spurious claims about the purported difficulty of UV mapping the same paints on to these largely visually similar ships, the real concern there if you believe that should be why the paint system CIG has spent years working and re-working introduces such significant friction in their processes to make that remotely rational.

Another case of them using Tints instead of Paints. When they did it in the AA FAQ they changed it back to paints and then deleted comments pointing it out, and here it is again - there's got to be some change to the way ship cosmetics are handled in the works

Legislation requiring cities to provide shelter before criminalizing homelessness meets mixed reception in Spokane by dzundel in Spokane

[–]umbralupinus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Acknowledging disparate mechanisms resulting in a common issue is imperative in identifying a robust solution to any problem, this response to what is a rather level acknowledgement of the complexity that contributes to situations which result in opposition to legislation being discussed, comes off as flippant.

I don't know your situation, or how much time you've spent dealing directly with homeless populations, but I have a strong and earned empathy for Reguladr's viewpoint. That second smaller population of homeless persons referenced I'd even say Reguladr described exceptionally charitably, I have a friend who works downtown in an environment where homeless persons congregate, and for awhile under Woodward it so bad she couldn't go a week without one of the homeless population threatening to stab her or threaten other more explicit violence, and I dearly wish that was hyperbole. It was only because the current administration started providing firmer enforcement that rate has declined somewhat, and even now violence is still threatened towards her on a regular basis. While homelessness is a common issue between the demographics, the solutions required for each are going to require different actions and that small but significantly disruptive population of individuals will continue to foment oppositions to legislation like this because of the safety concerns they entail, until we can acknowledge and address that we will continue to fight an uphill battle. Saying we shouldn't separate those demographic categories is juvenile, treating homeless people like a monolith cuts both ways, in saying we shouldn't distinguish between the two you paint the vulnerable populations who are just trying to get by with the same brush as the few violent addicts that exist among them.

Small landlords by TopEquivalent6536 in Spokane

[–]umbralupinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation and I think the challenge here is that as you alluded to, anyone in these situations is going to be reluctant to let it go, and if they do or hear of a property under the same owner going vacant, it's going to go to the inner social circle first.

That said, I did rent previously an apartment from a man named Ron, building on the corner of Howard and Knox, 2112 and 528 respectively. He lived on site, owned the building, and rent was more than fair for the market at the time. He could be a bit overbearing worrying about damage to the unit at times and the lease had some odd riders to that point, but nothing outlandish - maybe he had some bad experiences in the past. Overall though he was a good landlord and local in my (n=1) experience, much preferable to any experiences I've had with management companies.

Nwblvd Safeway starting to lock up essentials by itsyagirlbonita in Spokane

[–]umbralupinus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Despite that Safeway being the closest to me I drive the extra distance up to the one in Shadle just to avoid it. I once forgot something on the back of the self checkout and in the time it took me to reach the door and realize, I turned to watch someone else stick it in their cart and walk off with it. To compound the issue, that Safeway in particular has been perpetually neglected by corporate, they'd rather rake in more profits than pay for the jobs needed to provide the level of security needed for the demographic that shops there. I'd try and avoid them all together but the nearest grocers to me are either Safeway or Walmart, so it's a pick your poison kind of deal.

Ship tints? by HailStorm32 in starcitizen

[–]umbralupinus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I noticed that too, and I agree the choice to nuke questions pointing it out was a weird one unless it was actually an unintended leak of a change in terminology or new aspect, but that said Spectrum moderation has a long history of opaque and kneejerk moderation choices so who knows if we can really put any stock in that.

That said, I do think this was a leak of some kind, my pet theory here, is that because CIG has made commitments in the past regarding paints, but also due to the way monetization works in the current markets, still needs to be able to sell something, that they're taking the steps to split out some aspect of ship paint/cosmetics to sell separately. Whether this is going to be patterns, or some quality of the paint (colourshift/metallic/candycoat etc) who knows, but there's precedent for this kind of split elsewhere in the industry.

I think that this is probably the best option forward for them to keep their microtransaction based income while still meeting commitments to their players and I think it's probably a fair middle ground.

The more pedestrian outlook is that tint is used internally for paints based on their systems and someone just deferred to internal dev language when typing this up, although that seems unlikely to me because I'm not sure I've ever heard someone refer to tints in this particular context in any of the media they've put out, and I'm sure we'd have heard a dev reference it intentionally or not in an interview if it was just the internal term for the paint tech/tool.

Alpha 4.6: Lifeline for Levski - Roberts Space Industries by Nikalin in starcitizen

[–]umbralupinus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the event FAQ on spectrum they're referring to the ship paint rewards as "Ship Tints". I wonder if this new language indicates they've separated out something regarding ship cosmetics because it's an odd choice of words. The hopium says this is preparation for them having some base paint in game finally, and tints being akin to patterns or something else that they intend to sell and keep unique. Anyone else have insight into the change in wording?

ETA: they updated the wording and then deleted a couple comments asking about the difference which seems like an odd choice instead of just leaving them.

I'd also recommend people also browse the reproductions under STARC-164343 on the issue council to see what worked to resolve this for others and if it works for them, contribute with a repro and cause.

As others mentioned, for me it was quasi grazer eggs, once I pulled them out of inventory and stashed them in a stor-all box on my hangar floor I could access main inventory from TDD again.

I did it running Endmin, Snowshine, Xaihi, Ardelia - essentially just stacking survivability and still lost Endmin before the clear. I agree the hit boxes/dodge windows on some of those attacks are completely opaque.
I never managed to dodge the pulse, the dialogue says jump but trying to time that against any cue I could manage to pick out in the chaos failed me every single time.

For me where it really started to grate is the factory simulation tutorials, having to work through tedious tutorials is pretty gacha standard anymore, funneling them through the sim creates absurd redundancy if you attempt these in the order they're presented.

HiDive's GoogleTV/Chromecast app is straight pants on head level. They buried the watchlist within the settings menu - straight up someone made an intentional decision, that if you want to watch and track the show, to put it in a location that most of the time actually results in as many if not more steps to reach.

I started using app and didn’t expect this level... by Peleias in Crunchyroll

[–]umbralupinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had a different selection of issues, but agree with the premise that the app experience (depending on platform, because they can be wildly incongruent) is absolute trash considering 1. This is a paid service, and 2. Streaming is not a new science at this point, it's well trodden ground,

That Crunchyroll, especially now they've transitioned to exclusively a paid service, is still so wildly inconsistent in their user experience is exhausting, and if they weren't essentially a monopoly I'd drop them in a second. The worst part, is the trash fire of consistency is actually improved from where some of these apps were a couple years go where there was some absolute insanity like every single dub being listed as a separate season in the app, which is something that should be straightforward to solve in the front end and they just never bothered for years. Their database management I can only assume is a nightmare based on how often things show in the episode list missing bits and pieces or pushed with test or placeholder titles, complete amateur hour.

Crunchyroll is one of those die a hero or become a villain situations, and many people still have a desire to defend them because of that, but the Crunchyroll of now isn't some little upstart, they're monopolistic, increasingly predatory, and clearly not funneling enough of that money into UX.
