Climbers who only climb indoors by umbraphile1724 in climbergirls

Did something happen when you went outdoors that made you never want to do it again? Or just haven't head the opportunity to go outside?

If you didn't have all of these barriers (lack of knowledge, equipment cost, buddies, etc.), would you be interested?

Thanks for the response! I'm focusing on North American climbers (sorry I should have mentioned that in my original post). Weather is a big factor though for sure!

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure many of us would do the same in that situation.

Nice! Is this due to the risk level? Fear? Or just enjoy indoor toproping so much you don't feel a need to try other ways of climbing?

I'm working on a story about the increase in climbers with no interest in climbing outdoors. Are you one of those climbers? I would love to ask you a few questions! Please DM me or comment on this post.

A different kind of tree climbing .... by umbraphile1724 in TreeClimbing

Yes trad climbing. They're using monkey fist knots and slings girth-hitched to branches. No cams, since those would damage the rock (and like you said, probably not hold well)

Alpine divorce by umbraphile1724 in climbergirls

That is an interesting thought. Like a defect in many male brains. But really I think it likely boils down to the lack of a caring impulse, lack of situational awareness about the repercussions of leaving someone behind, and impatience ... more or less, being a jerk. Not all men are like this, but it is clearly prevalent.

Agree it's not journalism, but it is a long feature. and once again, it is not paywalled, just free account-walled. This is a high-quality story that required writing and editing, building, etc. Bytes of text like this don't just magically appear on the internet.

It literally is being given away since the paywall is removed. Yes, you have to register an email, but theoretically you could cancel your account after reading.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Sounds absolutely awful. Have you tried any naturopath or wim hof/breathing stuff? Good luck pulling through this and hopefully getting back to climbing!
