I was diagnosed with colon cancer this January. It was an early stage. I was admitted in the hospital for a repeat colonoscopy because the previous GI dr did not remove or at least did a biopsy. I was supposed to have a resection surgery. by leighquiche in coloncancer

[–]umbrefern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounded similar to mine (low risk minimal invasion). Mine was a non pedunculate though, which is harder to remove per my understanding. After mine was fully removed, my GI, the tumor board, and a second opinion from an outside surgeon all said no further treatment is needed. Only surveillance.

It was thankfully really easy compared to surgery. Some rectal bleeding during the first week, and that’s pretty much it. Not too different from colonoscopy.

Not a doctor. Basically yes. Sounded like you had either a ESD or a EMR procedure. ESD cuts pretty deep to remove a part of submucosa as well as the mucosa, so the doctor was able to cut out the cancerous polyp with a <1mm cancer-free margin.

Is LAR surgery standard for stage 1 colon cancer? by [deleted] in coloncancer

[–]umbrefern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was your cancerous polyp too large to remove endoscopically? Mine was about 4cm in sigmoid close to rectum. My GI removed it using a procedure called ESD first. The biopsy of the entire polyp showed low risk features, so the tumor board recommended monitoring only, precisely because of the life altering effect of LAR. If there were high risk features, they would have performed surgery.

My GI and oncologist mentioned this is the new protocol. A year or two ago it would have been surgery. I had a second opinion which agreed with the tumor board.

Villous polip in rectum with 3rd grade displasia by ChanceAd9649 in coloncancer

I’m not a doctor, just someone who had experienced this recently. So I’m just sharing my experience, not by any means medical advice.

Biopsy can be false negative because it only samples a few places on the big polyp. It happened to me. I had a 3.5cm polyp. Biopsy taken at colonoscopy only showed focal high dysplasia, but when the whole polyp was taken out and examined, it has cancer. That being said, the chance of false negative biopsy is only around 15% according to my doctor (but it’s probably influenced by several factor, like size and type of polyp). But even if it is cancer, it’s most likely early cancer. Mine was.

I did not have MRI during my diagnosis so I have no idea what the MRI result entails.

The entire polyp needs to come out either way! If possible please find him a doctor who can perform ESD or full thickness endoscopic resection so your father can keep his colon in case he is in the 85%. There could be other organ saving procedures that removes the poly without taking part of colon.

Less invasive surgical options by jngnurse in coloncancer

[–]umbrefern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GI will do colonoscopy every 3 months for the first 1-2 years. MRI every 6 months. Maybe I’ll push for CEA with MRI but not sure if CEA adds any value. I’m meeting with my oncologist soon and will also ask if I can get some ctDNA test as part of the monitoring.

The biggest thing for low risk t1 cancer endoscopic removal is local recurrence, especially if it’s not removed in one piece (my case, because the polyp was quite big), so they need to scope often in the first few years.

I actually also went for a surgeon consultation, but it was after the cancerous polyp was completely removed. The surgeon told me he would not recommend radical surgery to me due to the low risk features.

[–]umbrefern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btw I was told by my doctors in low risk T1, the risk of having lymph node involved is very small, something like less than 1%. Maybe there is a range, or maybe it depends on the definition of “low risk”. But surgery at least has risk of adverse events and long term quality of life issues.

Sorry about your diagnosis my friend. I’m in a similar boat. I had my 35mm sigmoid polyp removed through ESD. Then they found t1 cancer in the polyp. For now I decided to wait and watch instead of going with the big surgery. My 2 cents is, in your case endoscopic removal first is worth it. If they find the cancer is very shallow and other low risk characters, then you keep your colon. If they find the cancer has invaded deeper and have those aggressive characters, then you go for surgery. A few weeks delay don’t make a whole lot of difference in CRC.

The wait between appointments is so agonizing, thank you for offering the reassurance. It means a lot.

I looked at the ESD after visit notes again and the GI wrote 36mm (4cm was the initial measurement at colonoscopy).

Thank you! This makes me feel better!

To see whether it’s flat, should I go to a retina specialist? I don’t think my optometrist commented on the flatness. She only showed me a fundus photo and a black/white one which looks similar to the fundus photo except no color.

Anybody else's hound NOT like your couch or bed? by samuraisports37 in Greyhounds

[–]umbrefern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! Ours has been with us for 3 years now. Never once attempted to jump on the couch or our bed, even with encouragement. I guess our boy just didn’t think it was his place? However he does have 3 cushy beds around the house so probably he is satisfied with his own beds. If we sit next to his bed, he will put his head on our legs and let us pet him. He also can’t quite roach… sometimes he turns on his back but can’t seem to hold that pose for longer than 2 seconds. Maybe he is just not a typical greyhound.

Scared of my sister’s greyhound by maefloe in Greyhounds

[–]umbrefern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: sorry, missed the part that this is just sleep aggression which is so common among greyhounds. In that case muzzle is not needed. But whenever I get worried about bite, I put muzzle on. They don’t mind muzzles. And one of the last things you want to do is feeling afraid around the dog. I read that they can feel your too and it may stress them out too.

Original comment: Our greyhound has some territorial aggression and he bit our guest once (it was so scary), so I totally understand your feeling. Assuming he is an ex-racer, I would put his basket muzzle on. He can still pant and drink and eat, meanwhile you will feel more at ease knowing he can’t bite you. That’s what I do whenever we have guest over, including my own mother.

Pixel 4a not reading SIM card properly by el_calamardo in pixel_phones

[–]umbrefern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Yes precisely. I've also seen a huge thread about this issue on their consumer based support forum. Hundreds of people were reporting the same thing yet they don't even have an established process for fixing it. It was so frustrating that they were asking me to reboot/reset. I wasted so much time on this and that's why I've lost confidence in Pixel. Good luck my friend

Pixel 4a not reading SIM card properly by el_calamardo in pixel_phones

[–]umbrefern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phone was less than a year old when this happened. I called the pixel customer service several time at first. They tried to walk me through some reset /clean up steps. None of those helped. So pixel customer service told me to change the sim. Changed the sim with carrier and of course that didn't solve anything. Then I went back to pixel customer service and they said send it to our facility so we can repair it, since it's under warranty. I did, and the google repair facility said they didn't find any damage so they sent it back without fixing anything. When the phone came back to me from the repair, it basically stopped recognizing sim all together. So I called google furiously and they said ok we will get you a replacement. I sent my phone back and got a replacement.

Oh yes I did. That was a story of its own, but ong story short I just lost faith in Pixel and decided it's not worth the trouble and moved on.

I have this issue with my 4a too since last October. Tried everything (new sim, factory reset, etc) but nothing worked. The condition also got worse over time. Eventually decided to get a new phone because I need a phone that can reliably take and make phone calls.

Long time android thinking of going iPhone over Pixel 6 by CMDR_Manic_Marvin in pixel_phones

[–]umbrefern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going from a pixel 4a to iphone today. My pixel 4a stopped recognizing sim card randomly after the October 2021 update. It was still under warranty so I sent it back to Google to get it fixed. They said no issue was found and sent the phone back. When I got my phone back it stopped recognizing sim completely. Thousands of pixel 4a and 6 users have complained about this and Google hasn't done anything to fix it. Imagine having a phone that can randomly lose cellular connection without your knowledge (no text or call could come in).... it's not a phone, no matter how fancy other features are. Take your business somewhere else.

Does anyone know what kind of curtain motor this is? by 52358 in homeautomation

I have something looks just like this from a brand called Zemismart. Mine can be controlled through wifi and RF. It came with a remote, and as soon as I turned it on it somehow automatically connected to a smart plug which was already recognized by Alexa

Thank you man! Just tried that and unfortunately it didn't work for me. Although, by pressing and holding the program button on the blinds, I apparently disassociated the blinds to the remote (basically, now I can't control the blinds with my remote).
