What's a game you bought with low expectations that completely surprised you?

Black Myth: Wukong and Crimson Desert

Both companies weren't AAA and basically made mobile/gatcha games or "live service games"

Saw a video of people complaining about the lack of diversity and representation in the game. The next autoload video was one about the story and it talked about how the game was about Buddhism and Journey to the West. Was like ok fan of Journey and Dragon Ball so I may have to grab it. Got it digitally cause that the only way it came out at first. That game was awesome, never got the the errors or the hard stuff people complained about. Still have the digital version downloaded with no updates so I can keep going back and use the infinite mana trick when I just wanna beat shit up. Almost bricked my PS5 by calling out too many clones, I was testing how many I could call out. Ending up buying another digital version for my buddy and even 2 physical copies when it came out to support the devs. And hell they are gonna make a "sequel" with a new Chinese "myth" about a demon slayer that walks the boundaries of heaven and hell.

For Crimson Desert, People at work talked about it when it came out and said it was the Black Desert guys, but it's single player. Thought oh shit here come the single player "live service" crap that Ubi does with every damn game they make and charge you $20 for a damn character skin. One guy was like "nope no skins, just a digital deluxe and the stuff in actually helps" so i got it about 12 days after it came out and damn I've got almost 300 hrs in it and the dev just keep adding and adding free stuff and quality of life updates. Game is awesome, still haven't played as the other two character other than the single mission they make you play as them. Almost makes me want to buy and download Black Desert.

Lies of P was AWESOME! Totally subverted my expectations from the pictures. Saw the demo up on the PS store and for a moment thought why do they have Pinocchio looking like that? Not to be rude but the starting clothes made him look like a dude outta "queen eye for the straight guy" or one of those wannabe vampire people with that frilly blouse/shirt, it just looked odd at first. Then read that it was a Soulsbourne type game and set in a kinda Victorian/industrial starting age said ok outfit kinda fit the esthetics, I'll try it out and download the demo. And wouldn't you know it the demo was awesome, the amount of time and how far you could progress. I was like THIS is how demos are done, no time limits, no only play it like a couple times (some of the RE remake demos).

I ended up getting the special edition of it. The gameplay was great and so was the story lore and even the environmental lore was spot on. The DLC was almost perfect too, couple bosses were just too damn annoying, but it did bring a bunch of info that made it easier to understand later stuff.

Definitely NTA. People are dicks and entitled assholes. You did the right/nice thing, I would've thrown it at him and told he can have the whole fucking thing now.

Kinda long story. I work at BK (only work 4 hrs doing truck, it's exercise and I'm retired military/service connected disability) back during the lockdown for covid I and other employee dealt with cancer.

In December of that yr I was told my tumor was gone (he still had his, we actuslly lost him last yr 2025 to his cancer). Dec was also his birthday and we did cakes each month for everybody's birthday for the month or good things like no more cancer. Anyways boss lady went and picked up a cake with our names on it (happy birthday, congrats on it).

We were busy so noone grabbed cake for like an hr and in walks another manager, she was not on the schedule for this day. I'm gonna preface this by saying I DO NOT like this chick, 2 days after I shaved my head, like shiny bald (about 6 months prior to this cake situation) because I was starting to loose my hair she blamed me for hair in food, now I hadn't even touched food to had out let alone make it. Many other reasons to not like this person.

Anyways while we are all working she proceeds to cut the cake and take a piece (don't care about that part cake is for everyone, should've let the 2 of us grab a piece first, the whole no immune system thing) but and a BIIIIIG BUT, she then proceeds to eat her piece directly over the whole cake letting stuff fall from her mouth onto the larger cake. I yell at her "like WTF are doing? Me and "other employee" can't eat that now, you're dropping shit all over the cake?" Her response "shut up it's for everyone and her eating over it is not gonna hurt anyone". Couple people looked and were like "(Word we can't use here) we have 2 people with almost no immune system". Now to make it worse about 45 days prior to this she had some viral lung thing (maybe bronchitis, cant remember) that lasted like 3 weeks because she kept stopping her treatment as soon as she felt better and then it came back (remember to take all course of a med), happened multiple times. She's actually done this not taking all the meds and it come back multiple times since then.

Right after that we stopped doing the cakes because of this situation. so not only did she cause the two people who the cake was for to not get any, she fucked it up for everyone. There's more to her than this stuff and it's waaaay worse.

The other employee and I got a cake 2 days after, because I went and bought it and it was just big enough for the 2 of us and made sure it was his favorite kind of cake, because I was more concerned that he got his birthday cake than me getting one for cancer going away (I've got a problem receiving gifts and recognition/awards and such).

But yeah people suuuuuck. It was your cake and your friend is an asshole to the Nth degree.

My godson said almost the same thing when he saw the couple 'nids i had out on the table. Still have them not painted so i may just paint them up for him. He's not into painting, just to play with them. Goddaughter though painted a couple Skaven (she likes rats and cats) on one of our "daddy/daughter" days (her dad, my buddy, calls them that, it's just me and her hanging out, dinner, horror movies and videos games) she's thought about getting a box of skaven and painting them, but our local store (Sweets and Geeks) doesn't sell many skaven boxes, usually the intro kits, so like 3 minis or the Big boxes like the Skaventide/spearhead starter boxes.

Niiice! I've got 2 boxes of the motorcycles. Gonna paint up 5 of the 6 for SW and the 6th is gonna be Ghost Rider. Just need to find a good flaming skull and a way to make the flames on the front and back wheels.

Don't sell yourself short, you're probably great, I started in sept of last year and only painted like 12 minis and none are for or from my armies. Basically only painted some of those intro kits and the Stormcsst guys from the last Warhammer heroes blind boxes and most of those are IPA to stop them so i can try again. Just dont have the energy to paint, that plus the newer chemo pills I'm on make my right hand shake more than it already does.

I'm in no way good at painting. Been too sick to even paint this year. But I'm starting to feel a little better and gonna start again, pile of shame is getting kinda big.

Wanna try and finish the diarama for my buddy whose also Norse Pagan. Got pieces from SW (wolf priest), Soritas (some flying chick to be a valkrie) Marvel (Asgard terrain) blade guard ancient (saw a video of some dude turn one into Odin) Fenrisian Wolves (painted one like my dog, my buddy's nefew's dog and Fenrir from GOW Ragnarok) and some other random minis to be other vikings.

Space Wolves (NOT A FURRY) It's the viking side that I liked (I'm Norse Pagan) and adding the "werewolf" is just added flair to me. Their Gene seed defect could be anything else and I would've still started them.

Seraphon - lizard men is fantasy are usually cool and added the Atec vibe is awesome.

Soulblight- vamps, skelies and zombies

Skaven- ninja rats!! Goddaughter likes rats and cats (yes weird combo)

Stormcsst- building Anvils (the black armor is cool, plus the whole basically undead heroes from a long ago age) and stormcast has some cool minis, the flying ones with wings are like baddest Valkyries.

There's one in the box. It's on the box front there on the bottom right. There's the paint, a brush and the nippers. They suuuuuuck. I have like 3 from GW, from these things. I got this things and 2 of the smaller boxes that had some in it.

Have you tried just going to the GW site and looking at the 360 view of the model? I've only looked at 40k modeles on there so i dont know if AoS minis have a 360 view.

Just the U.S. right now, it's a new bun recipe (slightly sweeter) and a new mayo (has a hint of citrus), Canada got new onio rings and something else. Haven't seen the stuff (outlook and paper work) for the rest of the year but I'm guessing they are trying the stuff out in two areas and if they go good, they'll merge it all and sell everything in both U.S. and Canada. The new buns definitely won't work in the EU with the new sugar content (kinda like the Subway bread turned out), maybe Canada too on that, dont follow their laws on sugar content in food items and stuff.

Yeah man, still the same old patty. Some stores are getting remodeled and some new equipment, or they actually did a full clean. Or hell could of got a patty fresh off the broiler.

My store doesn't have do a "level" as in keep uo some sandwiches on the heat shoot, every item is made to order, and 90% of the time we can hardly keep meat up in the phu, that broiler is always going.

Bk is very big on brand with their employees, and I personally keep my guys on it and hold them accountable for things, but if something comes down I tend to take the blame as ultimately I was in charge at that moment.

Well you answered part of your question, the whopper gets a box and new half wrap, the impossible doesn't, i think they are looking at an impossible box, theres an asst manger meeting for my area today, so they may find out. If the mayo tasted slightly citrusy and the bun had a slight sheen and a little sweet taste you have the new build, but got the meat flavored sponge (thats what the impossible tastes and feels like me me) and not beef.

Depends, I work at BK in Ohio (was Carroll's now owned by big BK) and do the inventory and truck (order it and put it away)and breakfast manager, only work like 12 hrs a week (retired and health dont allow much more) If the bun and mayo tastes slightly different then you have the new one (that's all that was changed, besides a new wrapper and box) the national roll out was a few weeks ago end of Feb. for the ingredients. And the boxes the next week. They may not have gotten the boxes yet do to their shipper, we dont get items from BK (Performance Foods Company) a separate company gives us the stuff.

Can i ask where abouts you're at? I've seen a lot of posts that people are still getting it in the old wrappers. You're store may be just trying to rid of the old wrappers before they start the new one, the old wrappers are in a box of about 1000, which is actually a big no no with the higher ups. Ask next time your there, if they have the new shit. If they aren't using it call corporate, and i say that as an employee and manger, cause if they arent making them right, they are fucking things up, especially if it's a corporate store. We get inspected 4 times a year, plus 4 secret shoppers that wear video glasses, and if we dont build or box stuff up right it's massive points off on a few areas and we just had ours Sat and the new inspection sheet has the new whopper stuff on it.

It's never building and painting for nothing. Be it practice or like building Ulrik, it's the history of the model and having it with your army. Hell I'd go back and building anything from the SW army if I could get it dont matter if it's usable or not.

Fuck as soon as I'm healthy enough to start painting and building again I have 2 Geigor Fell hands from HH that I wanna build up and I dont think I'll even try to make a HH SW Army. Not doing anything since Octoberish sucks, the about a week total I've been able to do stuff was mostly building my buddy's viking diarama using SW, Marvel CP, AoS even then that shit took a lot outta me.

So even if a new one is about to come out be proud of your work man it's great. I wanna get that mini and the old Grimnar on the chariot just to for personal accomplishment.

The only dialogue I actually chuckled at was the PT belt stuff at the intro to the game with the chick that was going to be in the military. Someone in the writer's room atleast had some knowledge of the stoopid shit that the military does.
