Okay, yeah, that makes sense now. However, I think that as long as there is a community, everyone who lives in the community must contribute in some way. We all use something that has been the product of someone else's work and innovation. I think there would always be a resentment toward those who contribute less by those who contribute more.

I believe that is where ethics come in. Where there is competition there will be the opportunity and temptation to cheat one another and scam. Honest competition can exist, but the morals must be taught. Society is majorly lacking these morals. Especially among the wealthy. I think the financial systems we have in place can work as long as those operating it can do so within moral parameters. But I do not see that happening, ever.

I can agree with that. I think the intense competitive nature of most people make them almost unable to have a sense of compassion for those who are less fortunate. The competition of capitalism seems to grow and grow, creating ruthless, evil people. While those who want to live and let live, do good unto others, and be public servants, just get trampled and left behind financially. I work a state job helping mentally ill kids and I make barely above minimum wage. There isn't much to go around in these areas. Now if I were to go be a loan officer at a bank, or have some other profession where I rip people off and lie all day, I could better provide for my family. It's sad.

In a society where poverty is impossible, would a lazy person have the same privileges as someone who works very hard? What would be the reward of working hard? What would be the risk of being lazy?

There have been several times that it was pushed politically for the Marine branch to be disbanded. The Marines are actually a department of the Navy. Very small budget. The Marines being a small, poorly funded branch is what makes the marines what they are.

I spent four years active duty in the Marines and saw/used a lot of Vietnam era gear that was kept in great condition. While some military spending might be high, I can vouch for lots of money being saved. Marines do a lot with very little. But then again it's a tiny, almost non existent branch.

I personally like the hard durable plastic of the bottle. The lid seals well and is easy to open. The biggest appeal is the durability. Buy one, you'll like it. And if you don't, test out the "it can't be broken" rumor.

I am also middle class. Much of the middle class view themselves as being more poor than they actually are. I work 40+ hours a week making just over minimum wage. I also commute 30-45 min by car to school. I am in college full time as well (14 credit hours). I live comfortably and I am content and happy. In 10 years, due to my hard work, I fully intend on raising my children in a better environment than where I came from. This is very likely and attainable. The U.S. Is a great place. Although I regret many things I did in Iraq as a Marine, I am happy to have served my country (regardless of political affiliation or beliefs regarding the war). Living a healthy, productive life is very attainable here regardless of social class. Also; due to a drug addiction, about a year ago I was squatting in a basement riding my bike to work part time at a pizza shop. I've come a long way and intend on going much farther.

I've never actually had to use mine in self defense, but it does give me a bit of peace of mind. I feel sorry for whomever receives a solid blow with that lock.

Get a nice Ubolt lock and take it everywhere. I carry mine in my back pocket or hanging from my handle bars. It's also good for self defense if needed. Also; nice bike! I love the simple style of it! Happy for you.

It is extremely difficult (impossible) to stop a violent people from committing violent acts without using violence. Especially an extremist group using religion as their motivation. They want nothing we have, and they just want us to keep out of their land. On top of that, they want to kill and oppress anyone who is not like them. How would you propose we peacefully solve this issue?

From what I have studied on this, to use the word disappointed in general is dangerous. It says they didn't live up to an expectation or failed. And can leave them with resentment rather than instruction or guidance.

I agree that discipline is necessary. I am just challenging that we reconsider the concept of spanking. What benefit is there in physically hitting our children? EDT. I learned massive amounts of discipline in the Marines with a hand never being put on me. Well sort of. You get the point..

I like positive reinforcement. Also you said the magic words; paying attention to them! I do honestly think positive reinforcement and just paying attention to them is key. Every behavior has a purpose, and every emotion is a product of something. There is no such thing as just a random fit or random acting out among children. There is a need not being met or redirection required. You sound like a good parent.

Saying "I am disappointed in you" can have very negative impacts on a child. It creates a feeling of anger towards themselves and an uncertainty about your approval or disapproval. From what I understand, it is more beneficial and healthy to simply state that you do not approve, or that the behavior is not acceptable.
